does any one use the old style hand crank grinder that has been modded with a pulley for a electric motor? i am looking for a way to make the motor adjustable (its mounted to a counter top ) so i can adjust tension on the belt i was able to get by last year but want to make it better

I've got my grinder mounted above the motor with the grinder being mounted on four 1/4" x 4" carriage bolts ran up through the mount and nutted down to the mount. I then use two more nuts/flat washers on each bolt that I sandwich the grinder in between. By simply raising or lowering the nuts under the grinder on the carriage bolts I can pretty well tension the drive belt to about anywhere I need it. Use another nut/flat washer on top of the grinder to then hold it down against the bottom adjustment nut/washer.

A friend told me he used an electric drill and it worked well for him.

I've used a drill with a gear reducing adapter that Cabelas sold once upon a time. I still have the adapter but I was glad I bought it on clearance ($15, down from the normal $80) because it was painfully slow. Dad's grinder above takes longer to clean than it does to grind chunks from 2 deer.  |

I use a Hole Hog. (Gear reduction, angle head drill motor) and just tighten the chuck onto the input shaft of the hand grinder.
Works GREAT!
