Found during the wounded warrior hunt at atterbury several weeks ago. They think the deer might have gotten in the machinegun range during night exercises.

That deer isn't a high fence deer at all, my good friend is a major and runs range control at CA. His guys found that deer when looking for a deer during a special wounded warrior hunt hosted and put on by the good folks at CA prior to any other hunts this year on base (i.e. - generals hunt or draw hunts).

Did'nt think all of Atterbury was fenced?? Interesting though BIG OAKS is so I would guess any deer shot in there shouldn't qualify for any of the record book's. After all it is a fenced nature preserve correct.

Very nice!! I've seen several nice ones from there this year... Ran into a military guy at Brown Co SP hunt who had pics on his phone of them... Not all of Atterbury is high-fenced... The entire south end is open... Used to sit on the porch and walk them walk out of there into my yard then cross to the ridge behind my house... A good portion of the west side isn't high-fenced either... East side's fence has many down or low areas as well

The "fence" is not a deer proof fence. It's there to keep people out. Deer know where they can get in and out, either under or over.

Again my friend runs the range control and is a Major. The property is NOT high fenced. Plus in an area I hunt the property where there is a fence the deer come and go freely on and off of base as Timex says.
Indiana Taxidermy Association was donating mounts to any wounded warrior who connected at the wounded warrior hunt, and they are going to restore this and give to the wounded warrior groups.

High fence comment was a joke. All atterbury is high fence. No joking allowed, let that be your first warning! On a serious note, the deer killed inside the Newport fence were not allowed in some of the books. Several guys tried and the clubs that don't allow fenced deer to be included would not allow it. Can't remember which ones but I know for sure 3 guys that tried and was told of 4 others that tried but I didn't talk to them specifically. That fence was not deer proof either. Could care less myself but some of the record keepers do.

I used to work at Camp Atterbury when I lived in Indiana.
I still drive up to IN to hunt on the VIP Hunt at Camp Atterbury.
There are plenty of giant Bucks like this in Atterbury.
The restricted Impact area covers over 7,000 acres and I don't think it has been hunted in many years, because of the UXO.
Imagine the giant Bucks that must live in the Impact area on base.
Many years ago, I saw a Buck that would have scored in the 180 inch range chasing a doe in the Impact area across from area 1.

I think your probably talking about Dan Bell. Part of Camp Atterbury is fenced, but many areas are not. The entire eastern part of Area 2 has no fence. And parts of area 5, 6, 7, and 1 have no fence on the west side either, or at least they didn't used to. Down by the Grenade Range in area 3, the Deer come and go from atterbury to private land all the time.
