I still don't follow the oil logic...
Companies get more oil...prices go up? I'm sure you will tell me, "they are all in it together", or something like that. Some vast conspiracy to screw Americans...the truth is we were living high on the hog with oil prices for a very long time. Now, we are getting to about where we should be. Its truth.

Its truth. Its your opinion, and that is all it is. America has enjoyed inexpensive travel for a long time. It has been an American tradition, and it is fading fast. It is headed towards the well to do only being able to travel. And if you feel 'thats where it should be anyway', you are welcome to that opinion. I don't share it. Now, you seem to have trouble with the 'war is all about oil' issue. Think of it this way. We just went into an ice age. It may last for years, or for months. No one knows. We know of food and heating supplies stored away in several places, both inside and outside our city. We have been using it up faster than we realized, and it is still very cold. Our own supplies are starting to worry many. The other towns have so far allowed us to buy all we need, but soon we will have to buy it all from them or die. . . . . Unless we gain control of the area ourselves. If we have control, then we not only have the advantage, we have a great advantage over our enemies, who were also buying food and supplies from the surrounding towns. The war is all about oil, and gaining as much control as possible.

Just because we are there doesn't mean the oil is ours anyway. It is the oil companies that have the rights to the oil out of the rigs they have set up. China has rigs, Russia has rigs, nothing is exclusive. Oil prices are going up because we no longer use American oil. The hippies won't let us drill. Carter himself ordered test wells sealed in the late 70s. Hundreds of years worth of oil off the Alaskan Coast...I urge everyone to find and read "The Energy Non-Crisis"...rare find, I got it second hand from a gentleman that knows the author, a chaplain with the oil company at the time. Great read. If hippies won't allow us to drill our own oil, we have to pay for someone else just like the rest of the world.
Best bet would be to get rid of Chavez in Venezuala...I bet Americans would support...for at least 6 months...
