While field dressing the buck I shot I noticed the lungs had white spots 1/2 inch and greater in size. I first thought was TB so I called DNR who gave me the number to the Indiana BOAH. I asked if I should leave it until morning because there would only be a carcass the lady said collect the lungs and deer and if it ended up being bad I would get reissued a new tag of course the BOAH is closed until morning ( they will be open until midnight during gun) so I called and left a message. I was called back just after 8:00 am and spoke to the vet. The Vet asked my location and other info so they could track stuff like this. He asked about the lumps there size, location, one lung or both, what other organs effected, did I have trouble getting the organs out of the chest cavity, did I cut the open ( I thought that strange because it states in the reg book to leave alone and call). I then went out side to further check this deers lungs and chest cavity out. I put on gloves and the cut open the lungs and found the lumps to be inside and out, they were flat on the outside surface but round inside. I cut one open no puss or anything. I then called the vet back and he said it was still Pneumonia. He reaffirmed it was safe to handle and eat just don't eat the lungs. This was a very interesting experience. So here are the pics.

He reaffirmed it was safe to handle and eat just don't eat the lungs. I don't think he would have had to tell me that. You handled all this rather well and I thank you for sharing it with us. Another thing to look out for when dressing out a deer.

Well.....you see, the problem with that deer is that big "X" mark in the forth pic down, top of the lung.... Hard for a buck to live with those big "X"'s in their lungs! Nice shot....
Thanks for sharing....good info to know.

There is a ladder stand with wheels in the first valley, not sure who's it is. I cut some hair off of a doe this morning. Not sure where I will be for opening morning.

I know that Bob set a stand down there a week or so ago, might be his. Last year there were way too many guys hunting down there, we've stayed away this year. Josh has got a few shots off this year but nothing to show for it yet. I missed a big doe at 11 yards this past Saturday evening, the arrow hit right in front of her, she came in so fast I couldnt stand up so I took the shot sitting down......mistake, should have waited till she passed me then stood up. I think we will hit mini for birds this weekend. I'll be off work the first week of gun season, maybe we can hook up for a hunt.
