Effect of .357 on deer out at 110yds (using handloads/Buffalo Bore ammo): I took 2 does at sub 50yds on Dunes State Park. DRT, but not as dramatic damage wise. I don't have a specific dislike of the Marlin. It is an excellent gun (at least in .357... there have been some issues with the .44) but I just prefer the Top Eject Winchester (clones) to the side eject Marlin. New marlins also have a propensity for a (fixable) problem known as "the dreaded marlin jam". Here is a link to the specifics. marauder.homestead.com/files/marlin94fix.htmlBy itself, the carrier/jam issue would not keep me from buying one. I just prefer Winchesters (Blonde vs Readhead) and Stainless Steel. The Rossi in Stainless is my go-to gun so I don't know much about the Marlin & twist rates etc.

Quite impressive, Old Ironsites. Just go to show one that some of our PCR can make a real mess when they connect with a Whitetail Deer! I was blown away, when I killed two Deer last season with one shot @ 75 yards!!! My Brother is going to use my Ruger M-77/44 this Season here in KY and I am going to use my Ruger M-77 MKII in .270 or my Browning A-Bolt in .308.

44mag is better for the knockdown power ,357 is fine if you hit where you need to,or at least more important to do so than the 44. Id stay within 60 yards with the 357 ,with the 44 out to 80 with a pistol.

Yeah, it was a mess. That's what happens when a hard cast bullet hits a ball and socket joint while it is under compression... BOOM. I found bone frag all the way into the body cavity. Lost most of the quarter.
