..........hey bsutravis, sorry about the no recovery, it happens, but two things that comes to mind ,if you did hit in the gut area the arrow shaft will have a smell, and using expandables broadheads a quarter away shot are tough, new archery products just came out with a expandable broadhead called pro series spitfire XP 125..3 blade they CUT ON CONTACT that helps on shots like this. its what i'm using now and i took a quartering shot on a doe this year and got her, thank goodness......ganders mountains-- castleton has them...just my two cents....turkey scout Grim reapers are designed for the quartering shot..... The blades sit below the trocar tip allowing the tip to enter first and reducing the likliehood of a blade hitting first and throwing the head off...Much more than a spitfire does (not cut on contact version) He is using a great broadhead... Ive killed many of deer with it on angled shots.. He just got an unfortunate shot that is all.... sorry bout the luck travis, youll get him next time..

Don't forget to check your bow over good for any damage; sounds like one of your limbs could have hit something.

Travis sorry about it as well, I would have to say he's well and will probably be up and running doe's today, and it is a very good possiblity that he visits that area again? I lost a nice buck many years ago, and i always wounder about it, It would of been my 1st bow kill and my arrow looked to be same, Again Sorry, But that does'nt make it better for you woundering what if? Hope to see your pic of a dandy soon as well.

.......hey bsutravis, i agree with the brisket too,so close, just scared the buck , its getting close to the rut and this buck will be with the does when a doe comes in estrus, look for the does or find another scrape line for now and you can keep checking that spot for deer activety...good luck ...turkey scout

I'll be after him tomorrow. I'm going to let the area settle down today and hopefully he gets back on a routine of checking those scrapes. As soon as it warms up I'm going to do a few practice shots to check the bow out and make sure nothing moved from the jolt.
