s20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/Birddog2/This should show the bird I got on Saturday, supposedly a new Indiana state record,we're measuring it for the books tonight, but it has at least 48 inches of beard,1.562 in both spur length as they both were exactly the same and it weighed 25 lb..The beards measured over 9" on everyone of them, with the shortest being a little over 9" and the longest being closer to 10".......

Actually he came in from my left rear following two hens, they then went on out to my left and then all I could see of him was the top of his head, plus he was still to my left rear and I didn't have my shotgun in hand..imagine that!!! but anyhow as I slowly reached to my right to pick it up he started out following the two hens and I still could't see how big he was until he stopped ..I know this is going to be hard to believe but it's the honest to God's truth..but he stopped at 62 yards and turned to the left and that's when I saw about how big he was, plus at that time I had him in my sights pulled the trigger and so help me he didn't move a foot from where I shot him at..I've killed a couple at 51 and 53 yards but this was unbelieveable...using 3-1/2 inch Federal # 5 shot....unreal I know but the truth it is!!!!!!

Congrats on a true trophy! Wish I could get one with multiple beards. Hope you have better luck with two nwtf member witnesses than I had, have a top 10 spur bird (39mm) and can't get any members to look at it. Congrats, again, awesome!!! I would have to have that dude done "gobbling from the roost".

You know....right or wrong, I've always been a "gobbler is a gobbler" kind of guy. I may have to re-think my position. Unbelievable Tom, birddog!!!! Enjoy it.

Thanks for the congrats guys!!!!!!!
Now to a more important matter,it seems that the state of Indiana doesn't have anything for scoring turkeys like they do deer so I'm going to contact the state and see if I can get something like this started,so we'll see what they have to say about it.I f anyone here has any connections at that level you might want to contact them an express the same the more people involved the better the chance.
Again THANKS!!!!!!!

I just recieved the message below from Steve Backs from the IDNR and it seems to me that they could care less about the turkeys and the turkey hunters.......
The Indiana DNR does not have such a program, nor do most states, nor do we keep records on big birds, and so there is no official record turkey for Indiana or any other state. All birds legally taken are considered the hunter’s personal trophy. The National Wild Turkey Federation basically inherited a “record turkey” program from a private individual years ago and maintains the system strictly as a voluntary registry for interested, successful hunters. Even when the NWTF assumed control of the record turkey registry, there was some reluctance within their staff and the Technical committee as to whether they should promote the "biggest" wild turkey.
Based on some “Biggest” turkey contests conducted in the past by some local private vendors, my personal observations are that aspects of the record criteria are easily subject to fraud and inaccuracies related to weights (gutted, ungutted, drenched/dry feathers, shot-shells/wheel weights/stones in the gut cavity, domestic pen-reared birds), the beard length (e.g., super-glued horse hair beards), and inaccuracies in measuring the spurs.
Finally, there is little or no biological or wildlife management values to a record turkey registry.

BD,
The IDNR got out of the "trophy recording" business a long time ago.
The present deer record book is handled by the IDHA.
If I was in your hunting boots I'd go through the NWT F scoring system... whatever it takes.
That is too fine of a bird not to be registered somewhere.
