Last night around 6:30 p.m., I had a doe with a Monster 10pt following her. He came with in 62 yards. He stop and rub on trees and made a couple of scrapes. I tryed grunting to him. He would look my way, but was not leaving that doe. After some time, He turned and walked back the way He had came. I had recently gotten the Knight & Hale Pack Rack. I got it out and started rattling with it. I did this a couple of times. I then started hearing a deer coming towards me. It was a buck. He was coming in on a string. My heart sank some what, when I seen it was not the Monster buck. It was a nice 8pt, and I had never rattled in a buck before. So, I decided to take him. He came within 18 yards. I had to grunt at several times to get him to stop. When he did, I sent the arrow flying. My lighted nock did its job. I could tell I hit him a little more to the left than I wanted, and more into the shoulder. I watched the buck run about a 100 yards an then stop. It looked like he was going down. He than walk off very slowly. Now........I wish I had a good ending to this story....but I don't. We left him over night and came back in this morning. We had real good blood at first, but that slowly changed to just drops, and then nothing at all...... This is my second deer to shoot using 3 bladed Rage broad heads. The first deer(a doe) did not bleed much, but I did find her. The buck broke the carbon arrow about 6 inches up on the shaft, and the broad head was still in the buck.. Needless to say, I'm going back to my old Muzzy broad heads. And for now, I'm just sick to my stomach for loosing such a nice buck.

I personally have a similar story from silly expandables and have yet to have an opportunity with a bow on a good buck like that again 8 years ago now! I feel you!

I would go back tomorrow, with help. If the broadhead is till in him, theres a good chance he's cut to shreds inside and dead. Watch for buzzards and make a grid and stick to it. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about the lost buck, everyone I have talked with that use the rage 3 blades have had the same thing happen. 1 friend of mine lost 2 does in a row with them and he shoots a 502 grain arrow at 74 pounds, should have knocked the does sideways. He said he is going back to the eastman first cut expandables, he used them for 6 years and never lost a deer.

I am all for new and improved equipment, but when i find something that works for my set up I usual don't try and change if they still make the product. Sorry for the lost 8, but as Decatur said he is probably laying dead fairly close. Keep looking.

Don't give up, keep looking for him! I can't comment on the Rage 3 blade, but I can tell you this the 2 blade Rage gets it done. My wife shot an 8 pointer last year with them and I could darn near put my fist in the exit would. She is pulling 45 lbs with a parker. Good Luck!

I shot several deer with spitfire expadables and lost them all. I would stick with a fixed blade broadhead if I were you.

In my opinion broadheads get blamed far too often when shot placement is the reason the deer gets away. I shoot rocky mountain snypers 2 blade which are getting hard to find since they quit making them and I haven't lost a deer in probably 7 years. I believe the rage is basically the same head. I haven't always had the best bloods trails but I have found deer that I would have never thought I would. Like the time when I had one run into the corn with no blood trail. Walked the rows of corn and found the deer. Another time I had like one drop of blood, left without the deer and thought I better go back and just started walking the way the deer went and eventually found it on a trail. I believe the reason for my success over the past years has been that with the expandables my arrow hits where I want it to. I used to shoot muzzys. Also, I am only shooting 60 lbs.

Never understood why you would change from something you have had success and confidence with to try something some great TV hunter pushes. 10 Point is exactly right. Put the arrow in the right spot and you will have your deer. Good luck on finding your deer and it is good to see no one putting you down as we have seen on other sites.

sometimes arrows dont go exactly where we want them for many reasons. in those situations expandables will have a higher failure rate. Stick to non-expandable heads and up your odds. Sorry about the loss. It happens

It is possible that I made some shots that weren't great but when I switched to the muzzy fixed heads I never lost another deer.

I'm not exactly sure but I think the lighted knocks are illegal as well you might want to look that one up though.
