I would like to visit a shop or two but really don't want to drive 2+ hours to do so, I am in northern Hendricks county. Does anyone have any experience with and can you tell me your opinions on the following shops...
Korner Archery in Clayton The Outdoorsman in Greenwood Girt's Archery in Straughn Lonesome Elk Archery in Terre Haute
I have a couple of older bows that I want to have checked to see if they are serviceable and if not I will plan to purchase a new bow. (I have not been actively involved in bowhunting for 20 years now but am planning my return in 2010) Either way, I want a friendly knowledgeable local shop that I can spend my hard earned dollars at. PM me if you prefer and if you know of any other good shops that I have not listed please let me know.
TIA!

BTW - Please do yourself a favor and buy new.
I know in these tough economic times everyone wants to conserve as much as possible, but bows have come a long, long way in the last 4 or 5 years. I think that you will much more happier with a new bow.. IMO

I told her I would get them checked out and if I get any questionable reports I am buying new in the name of safety. She thinks it is silly to buy a new one when the old ones I have look to be in good shape.

Ah yes, the old "in the name of safety"... "but honey, I need this Ohlins shock for safety" "but honey, I need this front suspension valving for safety" "but honey, I need this Spidi leather suit for safety" "but honey, I need this new GPS for safety" "but honey, I need this 150hp motorcycle to get out of the way of cars... for safety"

The Outdoorsman seems to know their stuff and they have helped me out a time or 2 no charge; they have always treated everyone in there very well. I've bought several things there but never a bow. They are a big Hoyt shop and I know many people like them but I've never been able to get warm and fuzzy with that line. I wouldn't call them the least expensive place around either but they have a good stock of items.
Godscountryoutdoors is a small but growing shop that handles Bowtech, Martin, Athens and Elite. Justin has given me very good service and his prices are extremely competitive, but he is in Orleans.
I do agree that things have changed drastically in 20 years and it would be best to go with something newer.

Thanks again for the thoughts fellas! I got out today and visited a couple of shops and I think I have made up my mind on which brand of bow...now to decide on a shop.

Lonesome Elk has been fantastic for me. I did a lot of shopping around and didn't find anyone cheaper. The owner and his wife are true bow hunters and good people. Tom has never tried to sell me anything. He has helped by answering questions and provided insight, but never tried to push a decision one way or the other. Honestly, I can't imagine going anywhere else.
