hh .... has anyone verified if the bfg and wssm are close enough to be interchangeable? I talked to the guy who builds the guns for Just Hunt(he just happened to be there) and from what we compared the dimension too be they are pretty much exactly the same. The only difference I can tell is they are using Douglas 1-12 or 1-10 twist barrels and the BFG is using McGowen 1-14 twist barrels. Another guy came in who makes the brass and we compared procedures and its exactly the same dimensions. h.h.

The 358 BFG chamber dimensions are proprietary, the folks that have the dimensions have signed non disclosure agreements. "The Just Shoot Gun Shop" isn't on that list, but I'm flattered none the less. I've built on Lilja, Brux, Shilen, McGowen and Krieger - practically any premium quality blank, but they all are 14 twists. McGowen seems to be the most popular due to quality and short delivery time, followed closely by Shilen.

What kind of bullets are the best for the 358wssm for whitetails? Gonna shoot 225grains but heard the sierra gamegetters were built for big game not whitetails. Just curious.

The 200, 225 Barnes TSX will shoot threw the deer so will Nosler 225 Accubond and 225 Sierra's. The 180 Hornady SP might not make it since its a single shot pistol bullet. The 180 Sierra flat nose is a tougher made bullet so it most likely will shoot threw. The 200 Hornady SP will shoot threw the deer. After all the bullet tests I did the 200 Barnes TSX will most likely get the nod for this season. With Benchmark its flying 2640 fps at the muzzle and 1" groups @ 200 yards. I like bullets that shoot threw the deer and not blow up. You lose less meat. h.h.

The Barnes TSX bullets are great penetrators and do not fragment.

UPDATE.......
I was at Just Shoot today and the owner Paul told me he sold all the 20 MGM Encore .358 barrels and all the bolt guns he had so he re-ordered 20 more Encore .358 barrels and 5 are sold already.
The barrels should be in Oct 2. If any of you want one I suggest you get a hold of Paul and reserve yours. His number is at the top of the post.
They have loaded ammo, cases, bullets, dies and powder for the .358 WSSM. h.h.

I was just upthere friday to pick-up 150 rds. for me and FullRut. noslers 225 and sierra225. I'm leaning to the nosler225 but the sierra225 group good at 100yds. MY sight-in is 2.6" high at 100yds. and dead on at 200yds. Need to find a place to shoot 300yds to see if the noslers drop 10." like they say. Had to order my dies from RCBS, will take 6 to8wks.Paul gave me the part numbers for the die set and all the information i needed to no about the .358Wssm. Thanks again Paul and JUST HUNT GUN SHOP!

I talked to Barnes about their TSX bullet and the required velocities for expansion. They said that 1900 fps was the lower threshold.
With that said, I don't have a .358, but did a lot of research into what bullet and what wildcat cartridge to use when the law was put into effect. The .358wssm is the most cost effective route to take, with the best performance.
Now, if the 1.8" dimension gets passed, I wonder what will be the new kid on the block?
I have a Winchester bolt action .25 wssm, but can't justify putting the $ into changing it just yet in this economy as much as I'd like to.

I was Just Hunt Guns Shop today and they have 6 complete Encore .358 WSSM rifles left. If you want one for this season better get it before they are gone. He has loaded ammo for the Encore too.
If you would like to see and talk about these .358's Just Hunt is having a cook out Oct 30 @1100 AM open to the public. There will be guys there to answer any questions you might have. God willing I'll be there too. h.h.
