What a terrible way for a big buck to go. Suffering by the roadside for who knows how long, then eaten alive.

It was probably a PETA member who took the pics thinking how cute it was to see the little black beer and deer playing with each other...LOL

Was the photographer supposed to run the bear off?

I did feel sorry for the poor buck.. It's probably not a very good feeling being eaten alive and not being able to do anything about it.

I had mixed emotions about even posting it as I too felt sorry for the buck.
No, if I was the photographer I would not want to try and run the bear off. A bear defending his meal can get real nasty.

Using the word inhumane to describe this occurance doesn't fit. You're applying human emotions and feelings to an animal. How exactly to you think most prey animals die in the wild? There aren't any wild animal ER's or Nursing homes in the woods.

I see no proof the buck was hit by a car other than its by a roadside. Maybe it broke its leg in fence and that's where it was ambushed by the bear? Maybe there are train tracks nearby?

PETA's next attack needs to be on the automobile industry and road construction companies.

I would be very tempted, but then you'd open yourself up for all kinds of troubles if the wrong person saw you.

Hummm.....I agree with Hux, I think? Seems to me that reducing the deer population should not be just the hunters responsibility...being that most people believe the deer belong to all the people of the state, not just those that hunt.
SO, the person who hit that deer should be responsible to see it humanely dispatched and off the roadway. Should be law, you hit one, you take care of it in someway to prevent unnessasary suffering by the animal and to make sure it's not someone elses problem.
