Last year the results of the "Hunters Helping Farmers" program really SUCKED...is it any better for the hunters this year? Has anyone received a call from a farmer wanting help to thin the herd on their place? This being the second year for the program I'd like to think that the phones have begun to ring...but not at my house or anyone that I know that applied...how about you?

No calls this year either. Thought I saw where the state checked back with farmers who asked for the list last year and not a one called anyone on it but instead found people on their own.
Makes sense. I'VE never heard of a farmer needing help getting a hunter but while a decent idea, its really going to surprise ME if I get a call.
Worth a chance anyway so I signed up.
Good luck to you finding someone.
God Bless Steve

Same here I signed up both yrs and still havent recieved a call ! My wife, uncle, father, and three of my hunting buddies, plus myself have signed up again this yr but none of us have recieved a call. I like the idea of it but I dont see a farmer picking up the phone to call a stranger when more than likely they know of local area hunters or atleast someone they know would know someone willing to help them out ! I have knocked on countless doors since ealry April tryin to find a good ol' timer to let me hunt but havent had one say "ok" ! Its hard gettin on private land anymore or atleast I havent had any luck. I have offered to help out on the property, sign a liability waiver and even offered a lil money but most turn me down afraid that I will get hurt and sue ! Even after assuring them I wouldnt attempt to do that and showing them the DNR liabiliity waiver straight fro mthe DNR they still dont allow any hunters. I even typed up the waiver in large print for the fellers that dont see as well as they used to, have even read it out loud to them and re-tped it in laymans terms so its easiler to understand and they are still concerned about injuries. I have had a few that would allow me to hunt but only if I hunted either alone or with one other person but they wanted upwards of $4000.00 for Oct thru Jan !!! I cant afford that kind of money, who can with todays economy so I guess it will be public hunting ground for me again this year ! Looks like the only way Im gettin on private land is to fork out the change to lease some or try to buy my own but with only one income and a family of four I wont be doing it anytime soon !!! Good Luck to u all ! ~ Jeremy (INDeerhunter)

I have not heard anything also. Maybe if the farmers that were interested would post on the DNR site so hunters in area could see, and contact them. I am wanting to take my 2 boys just out to shoot a doe each, my youngest has not shot a deer at all yet. with work and sports, I am limited to only a couple of days during shotgun season.

There are so many hunters out there that are looking for land to hunt and these farmers know it. I dont see them finding it necessary to call a list in order to find hunters. I am sure that most hunters already have people who are interested in hunting the land already.....

This program is good in theory, but like most things does not translate into a real world success story.
