Hmmmm.. eight years of OBR and we still have records that are 30 and 34 years old? That was back in the 2, 3 and even 4 buck seasons.

Personally I like where the state is headed. (IMO) And yes I support Our supposed OBR, which isn't really a OBR. I know guy's that kill 3 or 4 buck's a year here in Indiana. (State Park hunt's and military hunt's included)

Many a "record" deer will never be entered in any record book...

Agree with you there. I'm over the whole record book thing myself. Have 2 deer at taxi now that would go P & y but don't have any desire to enter.

Granted that I am a relative newcomber to hunting as my family was not hunters when I was little, but this is my take. I hunt for meat, challenge and to be in the woods with the peace and beauty it provides. I have a 13 yr old that I have started hunting and if I ever heard him talking about hunting like it was a SPORT I would be utterly ashamed. If your main purpose in hunting is to get a "trophy", that is sad and disrespectful to the life you aim to take IMHO. I have never gotten trophy hunting and never will. I would not turn down a big buck, and would prefer to shoot a mature buck when possible, but in the end I am just as happy with a doe and filling my freezer.

Of the several folks I personally know with "book" eligible animals, very few have actually entered them.

I don't like most scoring system's because they deduct inch's. Have one system and score everything the same. (IMO) Also kidda funny you gotta pay to have your deer entered. As i've gotten older just seem's silly. My ego does'nt need to see my name in somebody's book to make me feel successful. Once had a guy tell me "it wasn't for him being recognized, but for the animal." Now that is BS!!! Again IMO.

I know several who have P & Y bucks that are not entered, but don't know any that have B & C's that aren't entered.

Yeah. Should have clarified that. I'm not sure I personally know anyone with a legitimate 170 net buck.
That's still a pretty special number.

just Heck while at the deer classice watching the bucksstream in ,apparently getting a deer that look like sure ins for 140 plus books is harder than it looks as well many had to walk out just short with almost or more than 150 in of total antler in thier hand .
Deductions put more out of the book that think they got made easy every year. Just a thought I have seen and mesured many deer that the owners and buddies were sure that the deer would make it an it did not.Just saying

I know several who have P & Y bucks that are not entered, but don't know any that have B & C's that aren't entered. ditto IMHO that is usually because them P&Y bucks do not make state books most times and the owner just do not want to spend the money
