Thank you for the post .
It is very telling and interesting !! I got flamed on here not long ago for posting that every state in the Midwest except MI blows us away in the record book top end deer and my explination as to why did not go over well. This shows my point better than any post I posted by simply looking at the separation in inches between our all thier respective top deer in each state in the Midwest. We only beat MI .

You have an interesting way of interpreting things.
If one were to just look at the very high end of each state a person might come to the conclusion to abandon the traditional midwestern states and head to a place like Missouri.
Personally I take the numbers for what they are ..... evidence that a guy can get lucky and kill a world class deer in several different states that have whitetails to hunt.

Personally I take the numbers for what they are ..... evidence that a guy can get lucky and kill a world class deer in several different states that have whitetails to hunt. That is a way of seeing that as well .I also look at the whole book as well and the states around us have 2 -3 -4 even up to 10 times or more the book entries than we do in shear numbers in their respective state books and the big books like P&Y, B&C, longhunter. I base my calls on more than just one thing . Is there a chance to kill a a record book animal here ?yes there is in any state . Is there a chance at a world class animal here? Yes but not even close to our nearest sister Midwest states except Mi. by hunter or deer by % per hunter season/day afeild . We are better than most of the non midwest states except TX but that is well known and no real suprise to anyone for the last what 40 or 50 years . Hunters who are world class trophy minded and bent on persueing them IN is not on thier short list of states to hunt. And for most not even on the long list. It is what it is andit is ours. But the odds of any hunter just to come here for an out of state hunty to take a world class buck is about the same as that person winning a million dollar jackpot!

Personally, I prefer quantity over quality. Get enough quantity, and there is bound to be some quality as well.

As said, the list is "interesting" data, nothing more. It shows nothing about quanity or quality. It shows 2 animals from most states, not overall trophy potential. Y

I didn't even look at the report. I was just stating my opinion when it comes to deer hunting.

Thanks for that Woody. Pretty cool, and too think I scored a typical 12pt from Indiana that netted over 198", but will probably never be entered-at least by the present owner. It was found.

I'm just glad I don't live in Rhode Island. Did you see there top bucks?
I am perfectly happy hunting in IN. For me, I would rather kill a 125" buck on my own property than pay thousands of dollars to kill a bigger one somewhere else.

Aint gonna make you a better or bigger person. I just dont get addiction to antlers. I like em. But dang people. It isnt a measure of how good you are or arent. Ya just as well be braggin about whos dog poops a bigger a turd, IMHO

I'm glad most prefer Indiana as low trophy potential. The last thing this state would need is the whole country coming here to kill our deer. I would hate to live in Iowa or Illinois, finding out your longtime hunting spot was leased to some jerks from new york or something. No thanks, I'm glad living in a sub par state...

Personally, I prefer quantity over quality. Get enough quantity, and there is bound to be some quality as well. Well said ,it is all a numbers game in fact look to the states like WI , TX,OH, and IL. The more of a "thing" {which is in fact in this case deer} the more top end of that thing there will be per person . So by reducing that "thing "you are in-fact reducing the very top end of that thing .And it is exacerbated by the fact that that top end thing is sought after and take so much it is even harder to have and get.

I used to be a top end fella and all that came along with that but I feel more and more like this as land and deer herd flies away yearly .

To hunters who are world class trophy minded and bent on persuing them, IN is not on their short list of states to hunt. And for most not even on the long list. You say that like it's a bad thing.

When I'm hunting elk, everyone wants a big bull. When it comes to deer, everyone wants a BIG buck. But if your dog craps in the house, smaller is always better.
