Just curious, Do you feel that killing a deer out of season to feed your family because you have fallen on hard times is poaching? Personally, I don't have a problem with that. But, to kill a deer for just the head and backstraps, I have a BIG problem with. Just curious as to some others takes on it.

There is no reason for one to poach Deer or other game animals in todays' world. We have "Hunters against Hunger" programs to help those in need. There is plenty of legally taken venison out there, all one has to do is show proof they actually need assistance. If poaching gets out-of-hand then soon there will be no more Deer or Game to hunt.

I just attended a conference on bariatric surgeries and presented were some time lapse population stats on obesity. Hunting for "survival" today is practically non existent.

You have 50 boxes of pseudoephedrine, 15 cans of lantern fuel, 10 small coleman propane tanks, burned up levy, coffee filters, and rigged up garden hoses? If so you will look pretty suspicious. What can I say, I've got allergies and an elaborate moonshine still But I'm still not making meth! BTW...pseudoephedrine is going to go Rx only, and Allegra just went generic. I.e, insurance isnt going to pay for it.

Hmmm? Head cut off a doe that was poached....could it possibly be that the animal was head shot and the bullet was still in the head somewhere? just guessing

I was watching that fairly new show about Alaska troopers not too long ago and they were investigating a poacher. The guy had shot a moose before season started, and he claimed that he had no other means to obtain food at the time. Apparently that is a legal reason to shoot a game animal out of season however inorder to legally take an animal out of season he had to be in such a remote area he couldnt make it to a road. The guys cabin was less than a 1/2 mile walk to the nearest road so he was fined for poaching. I agree that killing an animal out of season to survive should be legal, yet I also agree with the guys that posted on here in todays society I would find it very hard to prove thats the reason a deer was killed ! There are a lot of programs and even government aid available to feed your family and not many of us live in an area thats to remote to get help or food. So IMO killing an animal out of season for providing food in todays econonmy is still just poaching to me. And to add more the guy on the show that was apparently starving only cut out a small portion of the meat and left the rest to rot, so he was also charged with wanton waste, which also would fit in on the headless doe scenario IMO if the deer/moose was killed to provide food why then only a small portion of the animal was taken ? The doe one of you found was only missing the backstraps so how is it that one would think it wasnt poached. Even if it was disposed of after a traffice insisdent I am certain there was a lot more good meat to take from it than just the backstraps ! And if it was taking for feeding a starving family then atleast the hind quarters should have been taken as well. But thats just my opinion on the matter lol ! ~ INDeerhunter ~
