I'm talking early october when it is still warm and dry. How often does a deer need to find water? Once, twice a day? Does anybody know.

Usually just after a hard days work ;D Seriously I would think daily. I'm no biologist but that makes sense to me. Don't think they get too much moisture from food. I know my pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and dogs do daily.

Well, if deer follow the patterns of domesticated animals, several times a day. More if it's hot (I remember a October day being 90 F a couple years ago). Here in the local area there are streams and ponds to drink as they go, so they seem to drink often. The routes they follow on my property hits the creek at least once, and there are a couple that follow the creek, we leave this area alone and unmowed so they feel comfortable there.

I would also say once a day, but it really depends on the property and weather. I have seen deer eat snow and lick water off branches several times. Also take into consideration what the main food source is. For example: if the main diet is corn in early fall then I would say they would get water more than once a day.
I do think a water source is can make or break a hunting property.

A mature whitetail deer needs a quart of water daily...It could be broken in to many small drinks, a couple big drinks or etc...but they need around a quart a day according to wildlife biologist I've talked with...I've also read that same thing in many whitetail books...the hotter it is the more frequent the waterings I'm sure...the milder the temps, probably the less frequently they need water....alot like humans...if it's hot and dry they're gonna need water....find a water hole and hunt it.

Obviously, deer do go to water holes, but often get their fix in other souces. Vegatation has water in it and dew on it at times.

I'm inclined to find that quantity to be on the low side. Granted, they get a certain amount of water from their food just as we do, but they have roughly the same body mass as an adult human, and we require two liters per day for optimum health. Why would a deer need less water than us?
