Once again we will be doing free leashed dog blood tracking of wounded deer with our Teckel (dachshund) Oskar. This will be his 3rd year tracking and he found 19 deer in his first 2 seasons.
We don't charge anything for this, just enjoy tracking and want to get our dog on more blood trails (and help hunters recover deer).
I will travel 1 hour from the Cloverdale/Brazil/Greencastle Indiana area and we can track in Illinois as well as Indiana. Will travel a bit farther for a good track - doesn't hurt to call - worst case I may not be able to do it for some reason.
I know and abide by the dog tracking regulations for Indiana and Illinois. Hunters must have permission to access the property that the wounded deer enters, I won't trespass to track a deer. Both states allow night time tracking as long as no weapons are carried along - and 90% of our tracking ends up after dark.
Keep in mind that I work a full time job and hunt hard too - I do my level best to take all reasonable calls.
I can't promise we'll find your deer, but if he's mortally wounded the chances are VERY good, and if not you'll have the peace of mind to know that he isn't dead and unrecovered. By the way, Oskar doesn't care about horns - he would just as soon track does as bucks!
My tracking cell # is 812-241-2802, leave a message if I don't answer (I don't take it to the tree with me!) and I'll get back to you ASAP.
The best bet is that if you doubt your shot call before spending too much time looking - I don't mind "easy" tracks - and if you and 6 buddies spend 4 hours messing up the track it makes it exponentially harder for the dog to get past the point of loss. Of course assessment of the hit site - arrow, blood/hair sign etc is helpful when we talk on the phone.
Hoping to hear from some of you guys this year!
