Is it possible to get the Hoosier in an AR-10 platform? If so what would it cost for a complete rifle?

Yes, A.J. Brown Arms has done a few AR-10 conversions. (I do not know if anyone else is doing these conversions.) The customer supplies the rifle and Alan chambers, fits, finishes, and installs the barrel for around $600 the last time I talked with him. You may contact him for more information. His email and phone are: alan@ajbrownarms.com (812) 384-1056

Mine took 8 weeks or so, as I recall. I read somewhere they are taking longer these days.

You really ought to start a new post with all that good info cedarthicket. That info is buried pretty far into this one.

Thanks for the suggestion HuntMeister. I will start a new thread regarding sources of .358 Hoosier stuff.
And, the thread starter and other readers may appreciate more specific "on topic" posts here regarding bullet and powder options for the .358 Hoosier. In fact, in the near future I hope to add some information regarding such options.
(I am amazed that this thread has nearly 10,300 views since oldhoyt started it 2 years ago!)

Just a thought, what if a .358 caliber 1.8" cartridge, using a shorten to 1.8" belted magnum cartridge like the .300 Win. Mag., could be used instead of a .358 Win. or .308 case shorten down to 1.8" and expanded to hold .358" bullets. Wouldn't these shorten belted with increased capacity cartridge, be a better choice?? I think this type would be more accurate, produce more velocity, and would handle a greater weight of bullets. I think, with the right bullet weight & powder, these 1.8" "Magnum" type short cartridge would be a better choice. ~Just my thought~

There are already Indiana-legal 358 wildcats based on WSM cases. Another one, created by a member on this forum, is based on the 350 Rem Magnum case. Just about all of the bases have been covered regarding case options for the 1.800/358 wildcats, but if there is a case out there that would result in more case volume than those already tried, I'm sure it won't be too long until someone does try it.
For me the 358 Hoosier, which essentially matches 358 Win performance, is plenty of gun for deer. Very accurate and easy shooting as well.

I haven't seen anything done on the 284 case yet, that could exceed 358 win performance without the WSSM issues.

The reason I chose using more common parent cases, like .300 Win. Mag or even one of the other many "belted" cases to form legal .358 to .416" caliber wildcats for Hoosier Hunters, due mainly availability. No one knows how long those WSSM cases will be available to form .358 caliber cartridges. In addition, using a belted case would allow the headspace to rest on two points, the belt and of course the cartridge shoulder. This may increase the accuracy for the cartridge regardless of chosen caliber. Your .358 WSSM might be okay but using a more readily available belted case would be less expensive, & you have a greater number of parent cases inwhich to use. I have formed several .308 Win. cases from .30-06 or .270 cases, and it wasn't difficult at all, and I feel the same could be accomplished using "Belted" cases to form your 1.8" cases without the expense of WSSM cartridge cases. The .358 Hoosier is very close to the .357 Forsberg, a cartridge developed in 1983, which is also based on a shorten .308 Win. case.
