Ok, I know this is kinda like which is better Ford or Chevy.
My buddy is looking. He never had one and knows little about them either do I . He is willing to spend $500-$1000.
He is looking for descent speed but more concerned about finding a quiet crossbow and one that is easy to cock. He will be hunting out of ground blinds only.
He is going to shop around and shoot some. I thought I would throw this out here and see what kind of crossbow brands come up to help him narrow search down.
Thanks

My three go to crossbow brands would be TenPoint, Wicked Ridge and Excalibur. In that order.. Be aware that Horton is no longer in business and any Horton bow that he would buy (even if brand spanking new) would not come with any warranty. It would be all his and parts would be very difficult, if not impossible, to come by. Shopping and shooting is a great idea and then let the crossbow pick him.. Once he has picked the one he wants he should contact Dave at Wyvern and see what kind of a deal he can get.. www.wyverncreations.com/BTW - None are quiet....but it is the last noise a deer will ever hear. .

I got a Parker Tornado about a month ago. Like it a lot. Their lifetime warranty was a BIG consideration for me.

Try the stryker 350 from bowtech. Shoots 350 fps and only has a 135 lb draw. Very easy to cock and compact size compared to many xbows on market. Smaller size be nice for blind

I have a wicked ridge invader. I would NOT recommend it for hunting. Even with a silencer kit it is very loud, it is very accurate though

It really makes a difference. Either way that noise will be the last thing the deer hears.... Watch the video... m.youtube.com/watch?v=ug0SCvHWAUk&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dug0SCvHWAUk

I just traded off my x-force for a Barnett Jackal, and couldn't be happier with it, probably should have just sold the bow outright then I wouldn't have lost my butt on the trade, but hey it's the last time I'll lose my posterior on a compound bow........being newly disabled sucks! The crossbow itself is a fine shooter, very, very accurate too, took a whole 5 min. to sight it in, and it will slap arras to 40yds.........for $300 it seems well worth the money as I shot quite a few different models and found out the most expensive sure don't mean the best.

I put a BowJax kit on it and it helped out a lot on the noise. For the money, I don't think you can beat them.

I love my excalibur matrix. I have owned ten points before and prefer this bow over them.
Killed 3 deer and one turkey with it since last October. All one shot kills.
