Last summer the deer herd within a couple miles of my home was devasted. I feel at least two-thirds were lost. We're losing them again now. It's really spooky driving around the countryside before dark and not seeing any deer.

Friends are really beginning to find dead deer here in central Vermillion county. I've seen photos of three monster bucks found dead in the past week. Everybody is bummed. Today, I found one of the neighbors Herefords, bloated in a nearby creek. Can ehd kill cattle? I imagine we'll keep losing deer until we get a freeze.

Walked down to the creek last night to find the source of the smell wavering over our house. Found a little fawn next to the creek dead. Very little rain chances for the next ten days and the creek is not flowing again. Come on frost.

Got word from a couple sources that this past week there has been 14-22 deer found dead in 2 locations on crane. Both of these areas are just a couple 2-3 miles from the Davies county heard that was previously mentioned.

No PROOF of such, but you know how it goes. At a local bow shop (Marshall county up north) the owner "reports" guys telling him of multiple dead whitetail found locally. I cannot confirm or deny but...a good friend found ONE behind his house.
Without confirmation from the authorities it means nothing.....but there ARE reports as well as reports from hunters whining about not seeing deer (that is pretty normal too, though).
2 cents God Bless

Live in Jefferson county haven't heard anyone mention nothing here, but I've seen deer declining rapidly past 3 years. You can hardly see any deer here, worst year I ever seen and I've been in woods 30 years.

All deer reports from LaPorte, St Joe, and Marshall counties from buds are little to no deer seen. Tracks in the snow and trail cams are confirming this, along with check station, processors, and taxidermist reports. No doubt there is a MAJOR problem here in the NW part of the state.

I have a theory concerning cases of EHD in States such as Indiana, Illinois & other Midwest States. Could EHD be the result of GMO crops like corn & soybeans? What I mean is, that when Deer consume such crops, their immune system is weakened allowing them to contract EHD from Midges, much easier. Just a pet theory of mine which I feel need to be researched.
