I just returned from a nice morning drive around the Kankakee Fish and Wildlife area as well as the surrounding duck clubs, here is what I witnessed.
NOTHING.....NADA......ZIP......0.......
There are about 200 Canada geese on the Toto road refuge however I didn't see one duck except for the coots.
The corn pit area is flooded and again nothing.
The front refuge at SR8 & SR39 nothing except for coots.
Some of the clubs that still remain are either flooded or hardly have any water.
I grew up and have spent my entire duck hunting career hunting in and around that area and every year for the past 7+ years it's getting worse and worse.
Ducks are learning to hate Indiana.

It has been awfully warm until these last few days,, now that we have some weather moving in lets hope things start to change.

Blank out almost every time I go there and when I do get in there are no birds. Migration has shifted east I think.

Got a friend that hunts out by tri county and constantly sees and gets lots of ducks. Just have to wait and see what migrates through.

I shot coots once in Arkansas when there wasn't any ducks. Fun day and they eat pretty good.

Nope. Just breasted them and cooked the same as the mallards. Other than size of the filet you couldn't tell the difference.

Man I must have fixed them wrong...not even close to mallard. Pass the Cajun seasoning and I will mix them up with the famous asian carp for a good jumbalya.

I wouldn't eat a carp on a bet, but love shooting coots on a slow duck day. Breast them out, wrap bacon around them and slow bake. Bread some in cajun duck mix and fry. Both are good and taste like any other duck. Even had our Arkie guide eating them after he said he's duck hunted for 50 years and had never seen any man eat a coot.

I'd be happy to send Timex a few coots...Goose Pond has them by the thousands every year.
