Greetings again from over the pond. Well tomorrow is the day of my most local stalking fair and there will be a stand to measure heads, so tomorrow is d day I am taking the ten point sika head to be measured so I will post the result as soon as I know it. Also the entry ticket is a draw for a pair of swarvoski rangefinder binoculars, so I could do with a bit of luck
Tuesday is the start of our buck season and I do hope it goes better than the doe season did, we were a lot short this year. I have put a new scope on the 308, it I'd another slight and bender but with eight times magnification to help my old eyes a little, lol The other scope was over twenty year old and it went off zero for the first time in its life for no apparent reason, so it was time for a change. Regards Billy

Billy:
Can you post a pic of that Sika buck? I don't remember seeing it.
Good luck in the draw. Those are some nice binoculars. I went the cheap route. 10x42 SLC's and the 8x30 Laser Guide.
What size S&B did you put on it?

yes esshup i will post a picture of it cleaned but for now here it is as i shot it to my surprise and everyone else it did not make a medal but i am not bothered i am not a trophy medal hunter and it still is a trophy of a lifetime, it will go onto the hall wall in due course. The s&b is 8x56 this is just what work has supplied me to fit, i would rather of had the same as the one that is on my private rifle which is the Leupold 6.5 to 20x50 target scope with the varmint reticule, But that was never going to happen, i have used the previous six times smicht for twenty years and before that a 4 times pecar scope, now we are up to 8 times, next one comes with a white stick, lol don't know if blind people in the states carry a white stick but they do over here as my mum does to let everyone know that they cannot see. regards Billy

That is a great trophy. Congrats. Wish it had been me. It would go on my wall.

Billy, that sure looks like a trophy to me!
Yeah, they use the white stick with a red tip here.
With that S&B you'll be able to see very well in low light conditons. A bit stronger magnification allows you to pick apart some areas of brush to see thru it. I have a 5.5-22x50 Nightforce on one of my rifles, but that really doesn't get shot at any game closer than 275 meters. When in Colorado I shot it out to slightly more than 1200 meters just to verify bullet drop because of the 1800+ meter difference in elevation from here to there.
Hey, did you say you got a new pup?

Yes esshup i did she is a chocolate Labrador and is a juvenile now, coming on ok a bit nervous yet wanting to do her own thing, but we are getting there, she knows what to do but only does it if she thinks there is a treat for her, that is the stage we are at. i do think she is going to make a good dog, i don't believe in rushing them, so its steady away, she is out at work every day with me, she is keen so that is good.
I start the buck season tomorrow the 1st of April, i think i will be looking for 90 again although they have not told me yet, so both Ellie and the pup bailey will have plenty of outings from tomorrow. regards Billy

Billy:
How's season going so far? How big will she be when full grown? My buddy has an English Lab that is the same age as Kate, and Puppet isn't much bigger than Kate. Having her shadow Ellie will hasten her learning curve a bunch!!!

hi esshup Started shooting on Tuesday and i had seven bucks by Friday in not very good conditions, we had a lot of rain and mist, so i was pleased with seven. Nothing very interesting yet, just run of the mill bucks. I missed the first one with the new eight times scope, so i went to the range and put a few more bullets through to get used to the bigger site picture, it seems to work for me now.
The lab is not that big at the moment, a lot smaller than my last one, this weekend i have had to put another fence up, i live next to a kids playing field, with swings etc in it, and of course the pup found a way through the hedge into it to play with the kids, so now it is fenced off. lol At least she came back from the field to my whistle every time, so that is a good sign.
An English outfitter we know has married a lady from Texas and moved over your side of the pond and has wrote to my friend saying that he is working on getting some shooting sorted over there for his clients, so i am watching what happens with interest. regards Billy

Hi tenring I work for a government agency growing timber,so I am on government ground, the public have full access to it to walk, horse ride etc, but not hunt. Got one buck this morning, i saw a few of them but never got the chance of a shot for various reasons. Never mind, try again tonight. Regards Billy.

'Tis a shame that it is not open to hunting as is here, what a missed opportunity for the citizens of England.

Do you drive to Texas esshup or fly there.
Tenring they can come and take a booking in the buck season from the firm i work for and stalk and pay the going price which this year is 990 pound sterling for four outings, Monday to Thursday night. The folk from the continent come over and have a whale of a time as it is cheap to them, but very few British stalkers come i can only assume it is expensive to them. I do have a gentleman from the midlands coming to have a go next month, i just hope the bucks are going to move for him. This last week i got six bucks so we have thirteen up to now. regards Billy

Billy:
I'll usually drive rather than fly and rent a car for a week or so. I have friends about 1/2 way there, so I visit them on the way down and back.
FWIW, my other Springers had Saighton's Scud in the bloodline. The person in Texas, it wouldn't be Davey Jones, would it?

Our Agency is in the process of opening new offices in Texas(from his web site)
called the hunting agency and the gentleman is Rupert Ellis, known over here as roo ellis. My friend has hunted European boar with him in Croatia and Turkey, and is desperate to hunt abroad with me,to be honest esshup i have flown twice before but i am very nervous in a plane as i have no wings or a parachute, and the laws of gravity say what goes up must come down, great if in a controlled fashion. But the pair of us are getting older he is ten year older than me, and i would like to let him say that he has managed to get Billy away, and he knows i want a turkey and perhaps a whitetail with my bow so i am under pressure lol. but i am not standing on a little shelf strapped to a tree like you nutters do. We will see, i have been practicing with the bows and am confident it would be in the bag out to thirty yards, lol Right to date i have harvested twenty four bucks since April the first, at the moment i have hurt my lower back so i am taking it easy and only shooting animals that i can easily retrieve back to the truck. The pup is coming with me every day but has a long way to go to be anything like in ellie's class, but she is slowly learning and making the change from full time puppy play to a bit of work and obedience. i am happy with the progress. regards Billy

Thanks for the update Billy. I hope your back gets better quick. I've been blessed with a relatively strong body, but the one time my back gave me problems I was hating life. Kate outside during one of our winter storms: Later that evening:
