This diet gives me 1540 calories a day which can be 50% in carbs. I'm like you I watch those too and very seldom hit the 50%. More like in the 20 to 30% range. I don't drink any sugar drinks - diet coke and iced tea with Sweet and Lo.
I do one glazed doughnut a week at church as a reward. All other sweets are not sugar sweets.
I did the Atkins Diet once and lost 20 pounds but that got old and I put it all back on.

63 days in and I have lost 15 pounds. 5 more to go and I'll go on a maintenance diet. So far I've only had 3 "cheat days". A Mother's Day buffet and twice on vacation. I still didn't go way overboard. I've git my $20 tread mill outfitted with a 19" flat screen TV and that helps me do my 30 - 45 minute walks 3 to 4 times a week. I can honestly say this has not been hard at all. I'm very seldom hungry. Veggies, meats and fruits are low enough in calories a person can usually gorge themselves before they have to worry about hitting any calorie limits. Carbs are the killers. All the snacks, cakes, pies, candy, sweet drinks ..... I could eat 1/2 pound of chicken breast or drink one 20oz Mt Dew and have about the same amount of calories. I have watched my diet for the last 5 months or so and am within 3 or 4 pounds of where I started but I have lost body fat and put on lean muscle. Just by cutting out so many carbs and adding more veggies and fruits. I dont count calories .... as long as I am not drinking sweet drinks I find it almost impossible to to eat to many calories in a day. On my diet, I ate salads or those frozen vegetables heated up, in single servings packages, for lunch. Also, sometimes ate fruit like apple for desert. I ate chicken, beef, or game for my protein requirements, but just one serving like 4-6 oz. ALL carbohydrates & sweets, like cakes or pies, were out <period> as were any soft drinks. But I did drink coffee without sugar, which is the way I prefer anyway.

I try to eat a gram of protein per pound of body weight .... every day. That is a lot of chicken, pork and beef.
I cut out *most sugary drinks and learned to like Coke Zero.
I buy cans of green beans a couple dozen at a time and eat them by the can with each meal .... a whole lotta onion and olive oil makes em pretty tasty. Baby carrots. Apples.
Its a good thing I am a boring eater anyway ... I dont mind eating the same thing day after day.
I went keto for a period of time as well but found that cutting that low on carbs was a general pain in the butt ....

Yeah, I miss good 'ole Indiana grown tomatoes & sweet corn. The tomatoes I buy at Walmart are hard as a rock!! Their corn isn't much better.

Patience is the most difficult thing about it. Folks want to see instant and daily changes and that just isn't realistic.

WOW, I can't even think that low, Last time I weighed 181 lbs I was like 18. I tell everyone I have dense bones. No matter how you are doing it, the feather goes in YOUR cap for sticking with it. I, for one, am impressed!I road 12 miles yesterday and today. The bike needs some things changed for anything what I would consider long distance but I'll get there in time. My lungs and legs are not prepared for long distance yet either!! God Bless

Congrats on the accomplishment! Losing weight really comes down to simple math. Burn more calories than you take in and you will lose weight. There are 1,000,001 ways to get that done, but none are particularly fun or easy.
