I decided kind of late to put a good plot in this year, but I did it anyway. 3 weeks ago I went down to the property and sprayed a couple gallons of roundup on an acre. The fare used to have cattle on the land, do it was just grass and weeds. I went back a couple weeks later, which was Sunday and mowed it all down and threw down some white and red clover, plus turnips. I am hopeful that it will take but it is my first time doing something like this and I got a late start. The rain on Monday and Tuesday was a blessing, so fingers crossed.
I am already planning for next year and even looking at equipment. One thing I think would be helpful is a disc plow for my atv. Those puppies are expensive, so I am going to ask around for an old disc that I can cut down to 5 discs and weld a bracket on for my atv. I'm not sure that will work, but it is worth a shot.
If anyone has advise or recommendations, I am all ears. I'm a programmer, not a farmer! I think my farmer buddies are getting sick of all the questions. ;-)
Thanks.

sorry but any thing planted after the first of june has very little chance of doing much good It might come up good but when the rain stops and the heat is turned on the young seedlings die I am having to do over two plots over that I did June 6th for other people I knew better when I planted them and they didnt turn out good... Oh and did I mention weeds and Grass do weed control in June and July and plant fall plots in mid to late august for best results

I guess that's the breaks then. Oh well, I'm not out much other than time. I am still hopeful that some will come up but I know it is unlikely.
So if I replant in August, will I have something to hunt over this year? I kind of feel silly asking that, but I really don't know.
Thanks.

We will do our usual oats, turnips, radishes, rape and clover the last week in August or the first week in September.
By October 1 we will have a pretty good stand....with halfway decent rain...
I usually don't hunt it till the end of October though..

Wow. If I had known that I wouldn't have put all the time in. Now I know.
I don't have any implements for my atv yet and no farm equipment, so I need to start looking for something to till up that dirt come fall time.
Thanks for the info. I guess I should have said something prior to just going for it.

I thought it took 6 weeks after roundup to grow new seed, but just something I heard once.
I also have been doing research on food plots. I don't have any land of my own, but I believe that I will someday. I want to be ready. From everything I've read, I could have saved time and just asked Woody. What he does is what I learned.
