A little bigger, and more of a digger than a climber, but she shouldn't have been trying to move into my building next to my garden. Young one that will fry up nice.

Don't you know a ground hog when you see one? AKA "burrow chicken" as opposed to 'limb chicken" maddog

Haha. I wondered if that is what it was. Also, I didn't know people ate them. I learn something new every day! ;-)

Also, you could call them "wood chucks" or "whistle pigs." It has been several years since I ate one, but I seem to recall that when they are about squirrel size they taste a lot like squirrel. When they are rabbit size they taste a lot like rabbit. When they are several years old they taste ....well, tough. And, the old ones are a bear to skin.

When I was young I shot several but we never ate them, dad said they were greasy. But I gave 1 to a neighbor to eat. Now I don't know of any places close by to hunt them.

I've shot a number of groundhogs, on nearby farms, when I lived North of Washington, Indiana. Never considered eating them, but the farms, I hunted, all the farmers were glad I shot them.

They are mighty tasty when they are young. Fry em up or bbq them. Excellent table fare.
Woody, I never gave any thought to the fact I have a smoker. I may just have to smoke the next one I get.
