first post here obviously by my post count, but im a bit stumped. im not an avid hunter but my stepdad and a friend want to get into coyote hunting around here and i have a question regarding what ive gathered are called high racks. eather a bed mounted on a truck or a roof mounted on an suv, stand or platform, are they legal in Indiana? i know you can not hunt form inside a vehicle but what about one thats parked out in a field or in the woods from the roof? ive seen these style racks before they seam to be popular for predatorhunting.

Not legal. Indiana stipulates that you may not use a motorized conveyance in pursuit of furbearers, this leaves enough wiggle room for a variety of tickets to be written. The simplest and most common being "hunting" or "shooting" from (in/on) the vehicle itself regardless of it's proximity to a roadway.
I've killed a lot of critters from a high rack, killed critters in a lot of states, but to my knowledge Texas is the only one that has regulations allowing high racks. You may see a few guys in Oklahoma or New Mexico with shooting platforms in their trucks, but they're using them in Texas as neither of those states even allows night hunting. It's funny how television, DVD's and the internet can make something look "popular" simply because so much of the bang-flop footage is filmed in the one state where they're used. It's definitely an advantage, even in the target rich environment of Texas.
