By the way, my town is Indy, for anyone who might have missed the sarcasm in my post above...

Meh, most of the towns were too big for me! Was suprised to see elwood on there. When I was a kid it had quite a reputation. Not a good one either

I'm from Alexandria, originally, so I, too, was surprised to see Elwood on the list.

No cities are "safe" to me. There is just too much old time country running in my blood. If I have to pass through more than 3 stop lights to get to my destination.......someone else better be driving. Last time I had to drive myself to mid Mishawaka, mandatory to get medication refills, my blood pressure was 181 over 104 when I got there. It raised some after that arguing with the doctor that insisted I go to the emergency room! Living and working in that mess he wouldn't accept that the DRIVE there was the reason for my high blood pressure. While still not great, it was 135/88 when I got back to Culver and had it rechecked after sitting down 15 minutes. After I hit about age 55, I rapidly became less of a people (in cars) person. On the other hand, the same reminds me of the chuckles we had in the crew when I worked in Culver when watching the visitors come in from Illinois. "Out of towners" were pretty easy to spot because the speed limit within almost all of the entire town limits is 20 mph. I can imagine some blood pressure readings go up pretty regular for those visiting. I recall one of the PD telling me he gave one guy three speeding tickets in one day. Several years back Culver took out it's single stop light and turned one particular curve in the main drag, that seemed to cause visitors confusion where another road joined it, into a four way stop. The people on the street coming from the East taking the curve going South had right of way, not the one's going straight from the West. God Bless

I knew Evansville would not make it. Newburgh is a town so not even considered..
Of course we all know Gary and Indy would be tough to beat in the most dangerous..

I knew Evansville would not make it. Newburgh is a town so not even considered.. Not so - I live between #35 and #49, and both are towns and not cities. #2 even start out "The town of ...." Just another misleading title on the part of the author/editor

Just another misleading title on the part of the author/editor I did not know that. Yeah, "journalists" are not known for accuracy. .

Ditto that!
My mind went back to the story about the county somewhere here in IN a couple generations back where the prosecutor had a perfect long-standing record of zero unsolved murders in his county. That is, until someone investigated further into a "suicide" where the victim had committed the deed, with multiple blows from a hammer, then wiped the hammer down and replaced it on the tool rack before expiring!
Trouble with stats is in the collection and analysis of the info being processed. Garbage in, garbage out.
Ignoring that requirement in favor of simply searching the stats for indicated situations that make catchy headlines is trash journalism at best. Unfortunately, it's the norm as well.
