My son and I figured out the stripers at Raccoon, despite everyone saying that nobody was catching anything. youtu.be/wRl8e-64nB0

Congratulations for a job well done men. Just out of curiosity do you eat those if so how do they taste?

I've never had striped bass before, but a guy I work with says they are excellent! I had read that summertime stripers die when caught because of the depth change and fight they put out when caught during the hot months. These were only in 25' of water and we resuscitated them alongside the boat to make sure they were spunky and ready to be released. Next time I might have to keep one to try them out for dinner. A lot of fish markets have striped bass, so they must be good!

That is awesome. Been taking my boy catfishing this year and it has been awesome. Good job getting him on the fish!
Were you using live bait?

You would be correct Ryan. We trolled for 2 days with zero fish, so I caught some shad and that was the ticket! While photographing the 1st striper, we had 2 other rods double over and both had their drags too tight and the line snapped. We should have had 5 on that day! I can't wait to get back over there!

Way to go. I almost headed to monroe last night for the hybred stripes but decided big catfish are easier to find in the river. Should have hit monroe although my soon to be 8 year old still fought a 5 pound blue. It was a blast.

You can also use live Bluegills. 4"-5", maybe 6". I've caught Stripers there on slow trolled Bluegills in 2007-2008. They are good to eat. Fillet them, and take care to remove the dark red meat along the lateral line.
Even releasing them when "spunky" in warmer weather like this might still result in their death. They are pretty picky about surviving in warmer water - warmer water has less dissolved O2 in it. Lactic acid builds up. I know a guy that fishes for Hybrid Striped Bass in his pond, and when the water is warmer he puts them in a large cooler with pure O2 being put in the water with a Micropore diffuser. Once surface water temps hit the 80's he quits fishing for them even with the pure O2 - he's seen morts a few days later.
Good video and those are some NICE fish!

It seems like the Best Striped Bass and Smallmouth Bass fishing is actually in late Summer and during the Fall.
