I use them when they are sitting tight and aren't moving around. Hide in some bushes and blow on the whistle and shack the bushes limbs and listen for them to start chattering. Then spot and shoot! It will sometimes get them to come out of their nest to see whats going on.

When a squirrel is hiding on the other side of a tree trunk, grab a handful of nuts and slowly start walking them abound the tree to simulate you walking around. The target will scoot opposite the sound of the nuts hitting the woods floor. Be ready.

I carry a bellows call, but just as often use my mouth. Both are good for locating, but I quit calling once I'm on a good spot.
