Greetings from sunny Florida! Been here almost 2 years and love / hate it!....lol It is very expensive here in the Sarasota area but the weather is as good as it gets. I can count on one hand how many times I have wore long pants in the past two years. Rent, groceries and dining out are all very expensive here but hanging out on the beach is free. There aint much work here and none of the jobs pay anything you can live on. I have figured out ot is much easier to cool off than warm up though !
Seriously thinking of moving back to Indiana real soon, I have underwent revision surgery on my left hip as my body was having a problem with the metal on metal nature of the original implant. I have looked and looked down here and there is just no where to hunt unless you can come up with $5000.00 to $7000.00 a year. Just wast of Sarasota is a very wildlife rich area of Florida but no open hunting. Most of the public land here is draw hunt only. I missed all of last deer season but plan on hunting Indiana this fall!
Now the fishing down here, that's another story!!! Lots and Lots of fishing, prob go 3 to 4 times a week, both fresh and saltwater and I do love that aspect of Florida.
Now if you can believe this my son Josh turns 21 years of age at midnite tonite ! Yea I am OLD! He has been down here for about a year but is going back to Indiana this fall full time!
Anyway, just wanted to drop in and say Hi,

You are right about Florida and jobs - it is hard to make any money down there. Even construction and carpentry etc don't pay much. You can get roofers for $9/hr or less all day long. I always wondered about the hunting though. Must be hogs down there somewhere?
Anyway, hell, come on back home...there are some decent paying jobs around- for now anyway. My brother moved back here from DC, took a $40,000 pay cut, and never regretted it.
The Last straw was when he was on his way home from his job at the Pentagon one evening and stopped at a 7-11. Walking across the lot, a German Shepherd jumped out of the bed of a truck, knocked him down, and started trying to remove his right leg one piece at a time. Then the street-thug owner came out of the store, grabbed the dog, kicked my brother lying on the ground, stuck a pistol in his face and threatened to kill him "for messin' wif my dog". The Metro cops were lots of help, told him to be more careful where he stopped.
So he put his house on the market and came back to Terre Haute and taught college until he retired.
I can tell you if that happens to him here somebody will get a face full of lead.
Anyway welcome back on board.

I was just wondering about you the other day when I drove by the pawn shop you used to work at. Figured you had went down to Florida. I don't mind visiting my brother down there about once a year, but that is enough for me. I could never live down there. Hopefully next year I'll be heading down there to do a gator hunt.

My Older Sister & Brother-In-Law moved, from Ohio, a few yeas ago, and now live in Venice, FL. Not certain they're all that thrilled with Florida though, as All my Brother-In-Law's Family still lives in New Richmond, Ohio and My Sister has: my Brother & me, living in Ky, and my other Sister and other relatives living back in Indiana.

Hope you stick around and post often. Your wife sounds like mine, Woody. I've taken her down to the Panhandle for vacation 3 years running, she wants to move down there so bad she can taste it. When she brings it up I gently remind her that I'd have to sell two houses and get another job for that to happen. Besides, I say, we can always visit.

Guess I didn't realize you hadn't been here...but then I was "offsite" for awhile too! I'm like Woody-FL is someplace to visit every once in a decade or so but I don't think I could live there. Hopefully you're getting along with the health issues and congrats on your son hitting the 21 mark!

Update: I am back in Indiana full time ! I received a modest settlement for the faulty hip they installed in me, bought a motor home and headed to Delaney Park near Salem Indiana on October 4th. My son and I lived at the park in the motor home October and November and pretty much hunted EVERY DAY!......just trying to make up for the missed season last year....lol
We found a little 3 bedroom 1 bath right around the corner from the park its on 1 acre but it is surrounded by the Washington-Jackson State Forest.......actually there is a 80 acre landlocked tract of state forest property right out my back door!.....So I paid CASH for the house and this is where I am now living. I have been paying rent/mortgage since I was 16 but will never have to pay rent or mortgage again!
My wife stayed in Florida and it looks like a divorce is in the future......26 years down the drain!.....but I am much happier!
I love my new place, we have deer and turkey that we view out the back window everyday! Now I gotta start a job search. I have never lived in a small town and it seems that jobs are few and far between but I will figure something out. Sold the motor home and did some semi major improvements on the house to make it a little more comfortable.
My son killed a 140 class on the 6th of October and I passed several small bucks. I truly think this area is the best kept secret in public land hunting in Indiana!

I think it was between him and the guy from Kentucky timex, lone ranger and prob a few other names. But when it got really out of hand someone was stalking camby, posting personal info about his family.
Good times :-)
