Just need some clarification as I am new to hunting KY this year. I know we have a few guys here that hunt down there.
My situation: I will be bow and gun hunting zone 3
My question: Do I need to buy both a non resident hunting license for $140 and non resident deer permit for $120? This will allow me to take 2 deer, one being antlered, with any weapon correct?
I have been spoiled here over the years with an LTL for Indiana and just want to make sure I am on the up and up. If this is correct it seems their tag system is much similar, buy a tag and hunt,....any weapon....any season....
Thanks, Hooter

Thanks, Hooter Yes, you'll need to purchase both a regular non-resident hunting license and also a non-resident Deer Permit, cost is $260, as KY doubled their fees. You may take two Deer, one antlerless & one antlered with any equipment. Archery season starts in September with Rifle (modern) firearm opening in November. We have a two day M/L season in late October and it reopens again in December and runs for eight days. In zone #3 you may buy bonus Deer Tags but you can only take them with archery equipment, and our zone #3 season for rifle is 10 days long.

As already mentioned the KY Non Resident License Fees have increased this Year. Yes, they have "doubled" in price for most licenses & permits.

Since the Licenses cost $260 for Non Residents to hunt Deer here in Kentucky now, and since most Non Residents probably spend over $100 on gasoline and a few hundred dollars on places to stay , and food etc when they come here to hunt. It seems like they will end up spending over $400 per person just to hunt here, even if they come here to hunt Public Land.
They would probably be better off just keeping that money and leasing some decent property in their home state. Unless they have a good place to hunt here in KY, they would be better off just hunting their home state in my opinion to save money, or put their money towards leasing property in their home state.

I get what you are saying but there are other intangibles for some. I really enjoy the chance to get out in the woods with my friend who lives there. My wife sometimes goes with me and she and my friend's wife get to spend time together as well. Having said that I have done 2-3 weekend hunts down there for a bunch of years now and I probably won't go this year as he can't hunt early ML weekend this year (which is a great weekend) and with the price increase I'm going to pass. Next year, we'll see.
