Basically, squirrels just chew to keep those teeth wore down. Sometimes, the reason can be a lack of mast in their environment. Do they have plenty of nuts around? I've also read that squirrels may simply be trying to satisfy something like salt and minerals that they are lacking in their diet. My nephew has the same problem and has also used Ro-pel with some success: www.nixalite.com/ropel.aspx

Thanks for link. They have walnuts for sure and probably acorns. I wondered if it was the wood or paint they like because I live in a 20 acre woods doesn't make sense.

Put some salt sticks out and they will leave your house alone.

We had the same issue with them chewing cedar, looks like you have cedar as well. We just bought a few jalapeno peppers and diced them up. Placed them in a spray bottle for a few hours with some water and then sprayed the areas being chewed. It worked, just be aware of the wind direction while spraying and wear gloves when dicing them. They will burn your hands.

Don't know WHAT it is but they sure like plywood tree stand seats too. They don't mess with seats made out of osage though, IF one has a board of such that was found laying in an old barn decades ago. The suggestions of the jalapenos is similar to what I used when I too had a wood sided house in the middle of the woods. Liquid capsicum. Both the squirrel and the liquid are also great for chili. Warning on the capsicum though. It comes with an eye dropper for a reason!! You don't want it on your skin and it's NOT something to "dare" someone to put a drop on their tongue. "Food based" or not. It's dangerous stuff used straight. It's also like any oil, really hard to get washed off anything which is good for squirrel repellant but BAD on the surface of anything breathing. It only takes about 3 drops to a spray bottle of water for repellant. God Bless
