Outside my classroom there is an info board students are supposed to read before coming to class. To entice them to do that, I write a daily fun fact. Sometimes they are straightforward facts, sometimes I have some fun and just make stuff up. It's fun to watch them scratching their heads in confusion over some of my "home made" fun facts. Take today's for instance...

As a scientist I need more info: 1) How low did the population get? 2) What is the current estimated population? 3) What is the margin of error on those numbers? 4) What is the projected population for 10, 20, and years into the future? 5) You failed to cite your source, so did you plagiarize?

Here are my own fun facts: September 15 (today) is National Double Cheeseburger Day September 17 is National Apple Dumpling Day and everyone knows September 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day ... Arghhh you Swabbies!!!My source

I read a fun fact in an email last week. I haven't confirmed it yet but I found it very interesting.
"Those on the space station have a sun set or sun rise every 45 minutes"
