We had the wettest August I can remember (just over 8 inches), and in the first two weeks of September we've had another 4 inches.
Good luck with the plot.

Do you plan on fertilizing it when it gets a little taller?

I don't know if I am too late, but I am thinking about doing something like this myself. Oats, rye, radishes and sugar beets. All four have come up nicely. The oats are 3 to 4 inches as of today. They are up enough that im going to hit it with some 28 nitrogen next week. Then I won't go near it until the last week in October.. I'll hunt some oaks until then...

Attached should be a picture of one of our plots, it's a brassica blend by Monsterraxx called Last Heart Beet. Has purple top turnips, sugar beets and radishes primarily. This stuff gets hammered late season especially once the starches turn to sugars after a few good days with a frost. Already a week and a half ago the turnips were tennis ball size....from past experience we should easily have some softball or bigger sized bulbs before frost....

We had the wettest August I can remember (just over 8 inches), and in the first two weeks of September we've had another 4 inches. Good luck with the plot. We're about 6" below normal for rainfall here in Central Kentucky. Last good rain was back at the beginning of August, and that was just slightly over an inch. WE ARE REALLY DRY DOWN HERE!!! Moderate drought status, at this point-in-time; and these sunny breezy days with very low afternoon humidity readings of < 25% doesn't help much. So if you can spare & send some of that 8" of excess rain, down here, it would be greatly appreciated. Thus far this Month we've had .73" of precipitation.

I shouldn't have said a word as I've jinxed myself. We had 2.4 inches of rain September 10/11 and haven't had a drop since....

I have a weak, old food plot... LOL - I had to a double take on Woody's thread title. At first glance, with my internet reading brain engaged, it translated the title to a weak, old food plot. Then my brain reengaged and told me it was a week-old food plot.

Driving in to my food plot I saw vulture fly up off the ground on our side almost to my entrance cable. Another one was in a tree about 50 yards further down the road.
Driving out 5 or 6 flew up off the ground at the same spot as the first one. So I stopped and walked in the stand of pines. I could smell something dead... I started looking around and there it was.... .............
A dead raccoon...
Vultures are really good at finding dead things..
Glad it wasn't a big old buck..
