If the New Proposal passes and we are allowed to carry HPR's, what will you carry in the next gun season? Will your weapon of choice change? For myself it will be my 7mm Mag. I have been using my 44mag Marlin PCR. Let's try to keep this coversation positive.

I don't know if I'll switch from my .44 mag or not, but (if it passes) it would be nice to have choices.....

I'll probably use the Remington Model 700 .270 that my grandpa in Tennessee left me. I've killed countless groundhogs with it over the years when he'd let me use it down on his farm. Late in his life, he let me borrow it for a wild boar hunt and I killed one with it. Since he's passed, and the rifle is now mine, I haven't had any chances to hunt with it. I'd love to take a buck with that rifle in his honor.

It is not about pros and cons. Keep it positive and on subject or offending posts will be deleted..

I'll stick with my 358 Hoosier. It's a very accurate gun that's easy on the eyes. ;-)

Marlin .243 that I won several years ago. Never out of box. Dads 06 that I used for antelope but what I'm really looking forward to using in grandpas Remington .270 7600 made in the late 50's. Old weaver 4 power scope on it. Made it through many pa buck and doe seasons. Man that ole man could shoot that gun. 7600 will be the first to come out.

mod 700 270 fine rifle, i cut my teeth on one many years ago it was the forestry commissions caliber of choice in them days, the recoil knocked me around a bit as i was eighteen and weighed nine stone. i have to say though being a 308 man this does come hard but the finest roe rifle i have seen to date is the 25 06 loaded with a 75grn v max bullet, rifles don't shoot straight but that's as good as we are going to get. and the beauty is the bullet is frangible its also makes it as safe as it can get i don't know how tough your whitetail are but my friend brings fallow and the odd red deer down with that recipe. but if i was over there what would i use, of course my 308 but this time with 110grn v max for safety. They are going to make a mess i know, but my theory is simple, get it down and let the knife tidy it up. regards billy

Don't own any HPR's, guess it would be a good reason to buy one.

444 Marlin lever gun. The same thing I have used for several years. Just won't have to go to the work of cutting them down.

I just purchased a Noveske 6.8 SPC upper receiver assembly last week for my AR-15 in anticipation of this proposal passing. I understand that it would be at least 2015 before I could hunt deer with it, but it never hurts to get an early start. LOL! I built my .458 SOCOM a few months before PCR's were legalized, since I was confident in it passing.

I'll add the Mossberg. 30/06 and Winchester 1894 .30-30 to the current lineup:
.450 Bushmaster 12 gauge H&R slug gun Winchester 94 .45 Colt H&R .357 Mag
I like them all so I'll probably use them all. May also pick up a .243 or. 25/06.

Several possibilities, but I'll likely carry my Savage .243. It's the most accurate rifle that I own and it served me well in the deer woods of western Maryland when I lived out that way.

I can see some major dilemma standing at the gun safe trying to decide which one to take. Probably take the 35 Rem or the 358 Hoosier most days though.

Well, IF my current situation goes in the expected direction as well as the original IF it passes, I'll be carrying a new wildcat. The work I did on the 350JR keeping the case at 1.8 and the results from it triggered some thoughts of results I'd expect from other calibers run off the case with some slight changes, so I'm hoping to be able to find, and afford, a donor rifle from a couple I'd like to try and finish both a .277 and a .338 version. If I'm only part way through the endeavor I'll just shoot whichever donor rifle I have been able to pick up, as is, till I git r done. Since I require a short action and a magnum bolt face ANY of the rounds in such an action would "work". Probably loaded down a tad. LOL. It's fun to me, keeps my brain occupied and is yet another way for me to drag my love of deer hunting into several more months of planning, playing........and a little work. As it has been for those that enjoy working with such the reason to do so is not the "need" from the regulations that trigger creating your own wildcat, like we have had in the past few years. That is actually a rare circumstance from what I've seen. For decades and decades the "reason" to do so has been a simple one for a wildcatter and the most pure of all reasons to do anything, IMHO. "I want to" God Bless
