Thanks for all the tips guys. Shot my gun today using the 240 grain Hornady hollow points. At 50 yards I'm almost cutting the same holes. Can't wait to try this setup out.

Yeah, sorry. Its definitely for deer. Got a pretty good deal on it and I'll be setting it up for my kids. They are currently 6 and 4, so Ole Dad will get to use it for a few years. In addition, Ohio just added PCRs to their legal deer firearms. Walmart has / had some 180 grain Remington that give decent accuracy in my Marlin. The recoil is less too, something to consider for kids. I would handload light loads for them to practice with. .44 Special Cowboy loads would be good for practice too

Check out Buffalo Bore. They have a proprietary powder that adds quite a bit of punch.
I dropped two does last year with the my .357 Marlin using 180 gr Buffalo Bore. The first one went 30-40 yds, the second dropped on the spot.

That's some hot stuff, but almost double the $$ of the Hornady..

I just checked Midway and they have them on sale for $20.71; the leverolutions (140 grn) are also on sale ($19.79). Midway .357 hunting roundsIt looks like they also have the .44mag BB on sale for $28.58 (340 grn, 20 rnds) for $28.58 Midway .44 hunting rounds

Maybe that's where I went wrong; I ordered mine direct from the Buffalo Bore website. The .45 Colt +P ammo was $40 plus shipping and my .357 mag ammo was $30 plus shipping when I ordered mine. Next time I'll check Midway's prices..
