Wow. What a story. Why the heck didn't the guy have a gun? I'm glad the guy is ok and just had a couple broken bones and abrasions. It could have been much worse.
What you want to be these guys will be placing a fake arm in its mouth after mounting it.

Well at least they did the ethical thing and let the bear chew on the guy a while since it wasn't dead when they found it. But how cool would it be to be known as the guy how killed a 525 pound bear with a knife?!?! Update: www.startribune.com/local/277556561.html

Maybe it's just me, but if I was tracking a wounded anything that could kill and eat me I'd have at least a shotgun loaded with slugs if not something more powerful. I don't care what season it is.
