I had only been in the stand for an hour tonight. I jumper a doe right under my stand as I walked in. Hour passed and not even 30 yards away stands a big 10 pointer. He got nervous and was thinking better of where decided to eat acorns. I drew back stopped him settled my pin and shot. Got down and found my arrow......nothing. Not blood or hair. I've never had a shot this earlier in the season at a big buck let alone October 1st. He blew twice about 50 yards away. I did everything right except make the shot. Any idea of how long it could take before he feels comfortable again. I was shocked to see him at 640. Guess I just wasn't ready. Maybe next time.

Not sure how long it takes..just depends on the deer. Its still early in the season.I personally would just let this go. And go at it just like u did today. A miss just happens..even to the best of them. Good luck u will get'em.

Just had a lengthy conversation was dad. He said the same. Got another spot that works with a SE wind so I, thinking that's where I'll head tomorrow after work. Thanks guys for the comments. I'll get over it. Wounding it would've made me feel worse. He wasn't hit and may forget in a week. I'll be in the spot that I have him on trail cam tomorrow night. 400 yards from where I missed him tonight.

Wait a sec....640am? Is that when you took the shot?
As for the return it has been stated truly depends on deer...some will never been seen again...others have circled back the same day. Keep hunting smart and don't press or push odds just in hopes of him again.

Pm. Unless I had night vision I think 640 am would be difficult and illegal.

It sounds like you startled him...but if he only ran 50 yds, stopped, and was blowing, there is a chance you'll see him again. I would be more worried if he bolted and didn't stop.

Pm. Unless I had night vision I think 640 am would be difficult and illegal. Unless you were on central time. Either way, it was opening day, so there is plenty of time left in the season...you won't know unless you keep going out to sit. Good luck!

I think the whole you scared the deer away from an area is crap. He is probably in the same area right now !!

I'd love to agree with that. But I know the big ones don't get big by being stupid.
