So when should I pull out the horns? Desperate to generate some daylight buck activity. Read on a couple of websites that pre rut is the best time BESIDES the full blown chasing stage. Just want to hear what you guys thought.

Personally if I don't see anything by 8:45am tomorrow I am going to use the rattles and dominate buck scent bomb. I'll bomb it wait 5 mins then I am going to rattle. It can't hurt!
33* Low temp 2-3 mph wind north west? First buck with bow tomorrow hope so!

Saw a couple young bucks sparring last time I was out so it may not hurt to bang some horns together. Still haven't seen any big boys moving yet

Wait until Pre-Rut to rattle for one. It's October 18 give it another 7 days min - 10 days even better...then start rattling

I purposely leave my rattling bag out of my backpack until the last part of October so I'm not tempted to get them out and use them. Only noise maker I bring this early is a little Flextone grunt tube that lets me grunt or do a doe or fawn bleat. I use it to scare off turkeys.

I rattle sparingly throughout October with more success during the last half of the month. This went on for close to half an hour back and forth in front of the camera. End of September, fwiw.

Seems like every year, I get a 2-3 day window where I'm rattling in multiple bucks each sit. None before or after this window, usually. Most years it's within a couple days either side of Halloween.

Pulled my card on my way out this morning. Had several young bucks sparring. May try to do some light rattling this evening.

I pulled my cam on October 15th and had a picture of a younger buck with only one side of his rack. Not a bad size rack but his body was small. He had 4 points on the one side

Over a week ago I watched a smaller buck and a much larger bodied buck have a 20+ minute light sparring match almost 200 yds away after legal shooting light. Too dark to see the rack of the bigger bodied deer, but I could hear them. 2 spikes walked past my stand and slowly fed that way, stopping to watch once they got within about 30 yds. I stayed in my stand an extra 40 minutes so they wouldn't see or hear me getting out of the woods.
