My girlfriend was looking into crossbows recently. It came up about what license she would need to have. We'll I wasn't sure if it was the regular archery or if she would need the crossbow license. Anyone know for sure?

It's just a regular archery license.

See I thought I saw that somewhere but on DNR's website all I could find is that you would need the crossbow license.

Buy the bundle because it's good for the entire year across all seasons and weapons.

That's what I do as I hunt a lot but for her it just wouldn't add up.

She needs a crossbow license unless she is only hunting does and then she can just buy a bonus license. An archery license dies not cut it.
If she is just trying hunting I would not buy her a bundle as she probably wouldn't hunt enough to need it or fill three licenses..
Buy the crossbow licens and she can kill either sex..

This doesn't mention anything about the sex of the animal... I have taken a buck with my cross with the bundle. It covers the hunter across the board...

That is what I said...You can kill either sex with a crossbow license or a bundle BUT we can only kill one buck no matter what we hunt with.
Your remaining two licenses on your bundle is now only good for antlerless deer.

My apologies woody, I thought you meant that she needed a crossbow license to kill a buck when you said " She needs a crossbow license unless she only plans on shooting does". Should have read the rest more thoroughly!

Heck, I'm wrong every once in a while. Oops. Why if the crossbow is legal archery equipment do you have to buy a different license?
I have a lifetime so I guess I'm not up on the requirements. I shouldn't have answered without looking.

Yep, all about the $$. I've got a lifetime too, and was confused about the urban deer zone since I've never hunted it before. I have an opportunity this year, in multiple zones and found out that it's an "earn a buck" type of thing. I have to shoot a doe first, then I can take a buck. Any doe in any urban zone qualifies me.
I look at it like this: If I didn't have the lifetime license, I would need an archery license to hunt with a bow, or a firearms (gun) license to hunt with a gun, so I would imagine that I'd need a x-bow license to hunt with that.
Just be thankful that you aren't in Wi. You have to purchase a buck tag before you can purchase a doe tag. You cannot buy just a doe tag first. Since you can kill a buck with archery equip and with a gun, I'm not 100% sure if you have to buy a buck firearm tag before you purchase a doe firearm tag tho.

Evidently if I would have hunted with my crossbow this year I would have been hunting illegal. I always read the regs every year to make sure I am up on all changes but for some reason I missed the part about needing a crossbow license. Guess I will go ahead and buy my deer license bundle in order to hunt legal.

Indiana as the most convoluted deer license system going.
A license for every method is needed.. Why? Dollar$...
Glad I bought a lifetime license way back when...
We tried to get a "Sportsman's License" which would be like a life time license only on a yearly basis. The closest we got was the "bundle".

How does the state gain more money from a crossbow lic?? Unless you use a crossbow and a regular bow how else would the state be gaining more money.... Maybe Iam missing something!!! You always had to buy a lic anyway.
I was under the impression the crossbow lic. was established to gauge/learn how many folks where using them.
