Being the skeptic that I am .... wonder if its free range or high fence? They say - "We are very excited to announce that Trophy Pursuit has filmed the harvest of what we think could be the largest wild, 100% fair chase whitetail to ever be captured on professional video! " If it is a caged deer that will get out for sure...

Hope it is legit ....

Swilk, what made me wonder was the live picture of the deer standing next to a similar deer. Hope it's real. Of course, it's surely some exclusive place where it takes lots of $$$$ to hunt there and the place is strictly controlled. Killing that deer there is NOT the same accomplishment as a similar deer out where there is competition.
All that said, I hope it's a "real" deer. It's a fine specimen.

Lots of speculation. Kind of sad.

Lots of speculation. Kind of sad. That happens every time a giant is killed. I really don't believe this video production company would call it "100% fair chase" if it wasn't. Too much on the line. It might be some tightly controlled area and lots of good stuff to eat, but my bet is it is legit..

Lots of speculation. Kind of sad. Yes it is sad. Yet you can see why it happens. However, I imagine Woody is correct. I don't think it's illegal with them making those kinds of confident statements. Probably just a great deer off of a tightly controlled property. What I really can't understand is the downright hateful stuff that happens when someone shoots a really big one. Not speculation--downright fabrications. A local guy killed a big deer a few years ago and by the accounts of anyone who knew him he was a great guy and a straight shooter. About three days went by and I had heard three of four completely different accounts of how it was poached.

Doesn't even have to be a huge deer to get the rumor mill going.....I know a guy who puts down a good one most years and most years you hear stories about how he poaches and other nonsense.

www.outdoorlife.com/blogs/big-buck-zone/2011/10/hunting-high-fences-unsportsmanlike-conduct-or-sign-timesNo clue what they are defining as "fair chase." This author says high fence operations of thousands of acres that isnt stocked but is surrounded by an 8 foot high fence that keeps game in is considered fair chase. Other people define fair chase is simply following all federal and state laws. As far as I know, high fence operations are still considered legal... Time will tell on the real story I suppose. Do I seriously suspect the credibility of this buck because of it's appearence? Absolutely but anything is possible.

I think it is generally accepted in the hunting industry that "fair chase" does not include high fences...

About three days went by and I had heard three of four completely different accounts of how it was poached. Same thing happened to a friend of mine a couple of years ago. He killed a high scoring typical and I asked him to post it on this site. He did and then some jerk signs up and starts claiming he killed it the night before opening day. The funny thing was that myself and about a dozen other people were with him the night before opening day because he has a big dinner at his house that night every year. Then about two weeks later a guy at work shows me a picture of his deer in a text that says it was killed out west somewhere. Its amazing how crazy stories get started whenever there is a big buck killed.
