The topic of civil asset forfeiture has been high on our agenda recently as federal 'agents' discover how to steal Americans' hard-earned cash with zero repurcussions , and decide unilaterally how much cash a 'common man' is allowed to carry; but as The NY Times reports, the escalation to The IRS brings a whole new world of possibilities with regard asset confiscation based on no actual crime being proved... As The NY Times reports, For almost 40 years, Carole Hinders has dished out Mexican specialties at her modest cash-only restaurant. For just as long, she deposited the earnings at a small bank branch a block away - until last year, when two tax agents knocked on her door and informed her that they had seized her checking account, almost $33,000. The Internal Revenue Service agents did not accuse Ms. Hinders of money laundering or cheating on her taxes — in fact, she has not been charged with any crime. Instead, the money was seized solely because she had deposited less than $10,000 at a time, which they viewed as an attempt to avoid triggering a required government report. Her money was seized under an increasingly controversial area of law known as civil asset forfeiture, which allows law enforcement agents to take property they suspect of being tied to crime even if no criminal charges are filed. Law enforcement agencies get to keep a share of whatever is forfeited. Critics say this incentive has led to the creation of a law enforcement dragnet, with more than 100 multiagency task forces combing www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-10-26/they-just-want-money-how-irs-can-seize-accounts-suspicion-aloneThe Times Article.. www.nytimes.com/2014/10/26/us/law-lets-irs-seize-accounts-on-suspicion-no-crime-required.html?_r=0

And nothing will be done about it regardless of who is in power.

Yes .... and no.
Yes for the reason you are hinting at that one party is just as bad as the other.
No for the reason of the nature of the world and all information is instantly available .... sooner or later we the people will get tired of this crap and send someone to office that will push to change it and make a truly fair tax system. If/when that happens the IRS as we currently know it will no longer be needed.
Maybe my "no" should be replaced with "I hope" .....

The mid-terms are next week and the vast majority of incumbents will win...as usual. Americans love to complain about politicians, yet we continue to send the same people back to Washington over and over and over again.

Likely so but it still won't matter. Even controlling both I bet govt grows over the next 2 years and doesn't shrink.

So we can resume the Republicans attack and destruction of America?
Maybe we will get more violations of the Fourth Amendment based on the premise of "security" .... or maybe we can start another couple wars 8000 miles away that we have no hope of winning because we arent willing to kill em all.

We have an opportunity in my congressional district to send a representative to Washington who is a firm proponent of smaller government, a much smaller and less intrusive tax system, and fewer foreign no-win wars.
He'll probably attract fewer than ten percent of the vote, though, because so many seem to think that voting their own opinions and positions is "throwing their vote away" if the candidate doesn't actually win the election.
Pity that we aren't collectively smart enough to survive the two-party system.

Whatever, sometimes the lesser of two evils is the only choice..put it this way. a Republican Administration would be a 1000% improvement to the incompetent idiots in the White House currently.
