I am very glad I finally convinced my wife to try deer hunting. She really enjoys being in the deer woods. She has yet to harvest a deer but she understands the appeal. That makes it easier to understand why I go as often as I do. She only hunts a fraction of the time I do, but she doesn't complain anymore. She gets it.

My mother in law tells my wife it is called "hunters divorce". She comes from a hunting family so it is nothing new for her and she accepts it as the way it is. I even cut our first date short because it was the opener of mz weekend. I also told her I grow my beard out and my truck is dirty and bloody and that was what I do. So she knew going in what she was getting into. She has been a great sport thru our 8yrs together now, and we have a 4yo son who is just getting into the swing of it. She is doomed! HaHa.

My wife is originally from Utah where hunting is just part of their lives and she has known from day one of our relationship that this is what I do. So, I know I am very lucky to have a understanding spouse!!

There needs to be a clause in there about who is to tend to sick children when they're home from school. I haven't been this excited for an upcoming weekend in a long time. Just before I left work yesterday for my 3 day weekend I get a text saying the boy has strep throat. Bet you can't guess who's nursing him back to health today and not in the woods.

My two Sisters are TOTALLY against Hunting anything, and my two Brother-in-laws don't hunt. One use to hunt Rabbits, Squirrels, & Quail with his friends, when he was in High School, but quit years ago. Other than my Cousins, my late Dad, and Grandfather; I am the only one in my family that still hunts. My Brother sometimes hunts, but he'd rather fish.

The understanding needs to be negotiated well BEFORE getting married. I have been with my wonderful wife for 18 years and we have never had a problem. I made it very clear from the beginning that I am a passionate hunter, always have been, and always will be. I have invited her to join me, but she is not interested. Just like I am not interested in going to the theatre. While I don't get to hunt as much as I would like, it is never due to her not wanting me to or giving me grief.
On the other hand, my best friend got married about ten years ago. I distinctly remember sitting around the fire with him, his brother, and father. We all gave him a stern lecture about setting the expectations before taking the plunge. He has not been to camp in probably five years.

These matters were explained well before any wedding. I race sprint cars all summer. I hunt all winter. She tells our friends and family that there is Only really 2 seasons. Race and hunt. It works just fine.

Well I'm lucky but there again I'm not. My husband is into hunting just not so much into deer hunting. He's always game for a squirrel hunt, and am planing to take him duck hunting back home sometime next year. But he gets a little annoyed with the amount of time I spend in the deer stand. I just come home and cook a good dinner and all is forgiven. ROFL

Once you're retired they're kinda glad to get you out of the house for a while.

Just o few of my best ways to get her to insist is Leave muddy boots in kitchen, Muddy hunting clothes in bed room, make a sandwich and leave bread unwrapped, lunch meat, cheese, lettus, Mayo sitting on counter, Dirty dishes sitting besides Lazy Boy recliner after eating sandwich in living room, Practice for hours on end blowing a grunt tube and rattling my new rattle bag in the house and last stink the bathroom up, or whole house in general. I forgot one, Leave a brand new bag of chips open without resealing them with chip clip and brushing crums off of lap on to just cleaned carpet after eating sandwich. I do sometimes have problems climbing into my stand with one of her size 7 Sketcher running shoes in my rear end.
My wife is a Saint to put up with my crap!!!!!, but we'v been happy now for 18 years........I think

Lol yea I know that feeling. My husband has MS so he is on disability. Drives me nuts him being home all the time (hence the reason I hunt so much!)
