I get tickled every time they utter the words "never happened before" or "biggest ever".
4.5 Billion years of the earth and 120 years or so of written history ....
But ... good grief did you see how much snow they got up in Buffalo? Some areas reporting 6-7 feet of snow on the ground and another 2-3 feet coming. Dont know if its the most ever but that is a lot of snow. A whole lot. Not sure how critters survive with that kind of snow.

If I was a homeowner up there I would be very nervous about all that snow on my roof!

No kidding ... I dont know how much 7' of wet snow weighs per sqft but Im guessing it is waaaaaay more than any of the trusses were ever designed to take. That much weight could destroy an entire house.

Back in the winters of '75 thru '79 when I was in the Marines (man I'm sounding old!!!) several of our AMTRAC units were sent to the Buffalo area for winter training. While there the area experienced one of "once in lifetime snow storms" that Buffalo was, and still is, famous for. I can still remember one of my friends talking about being sent out in an AMTRAC to rescue stranded motorist on the interstate-they thought they were going over a drift but felt something underneath-only to discover that they had just basically crushed an abandoned police car....some winter training!!!!

Got 6 feet of snow on the roof? Turn the thermostat up and open the attic entrance.

I don't think this is JDaily's bunch.. Yah! A little early in the season for that. Now, I will have to say, one of my sidewalk guys blew the snow into the freshly plowed lot the other night, instead of in the grass. :/

The ABC news said a 1500 SF home with snow 1 foot deep would have 14 tons on the roof. My sister lives in Petosky Mi and they have to have their roof shoveled off regular.

Stopped in a small town in Idaho several years back on a family vacation, can't recall the name, but I remember laughing about the entire town, businesses and all, having metal roofs. We first though there must have been some super salesman come through there in the metal roofing line, but we realized after a while that it was for preventing enormous snow loads. A quick question at a gas stop confirmed that it was a local building code and was imposed with good reason. They were all fairly steep as well.
The town was on the eastern slope of the Rockies, not too far from the Warm River, which was apparently named by a local humorist. My toes got numb pretty quick while wading in uninsulated waders trying to catch a trout on my fly rod. It was late July and sunny.
