The buck I killed yesterday was all by his lonesome self. His neck is big and his hocks stink to high Heaven though. He could have been coming to the food plot to check it for does though. I didn't get time to ask him.. biggrin2

Mine was 200 yds away and I worked him with grunt call. He was not happy another buck was in his area. Hair raised on back and stiff legged. He was definitely on the prowl for a date.

Evening have been much better than the mornings for me. Bucks are still cruising looking for does, fighting and you can smell them from hundreds of yrd away. I noticed there were new tree rubs around the cornfield last night as I was sitting there.
I have seen way more bucks this season than ever before and much bigger. Been an awesome season so far, looking for one more doe but going to Dearborn Co for that one.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, however I think this year is the hardes I have ever hunted. I took both weeks off until today to hunt and I didn't see squat. Part of me thinks that someone(s) around me had a heck of an archery season so far. I just can't put my finger on it, put my trail cam in a spot that historically has produced many picutes.
So for the last 3 weeks I only have around 5 pictures, any other season I would of had dozens. Going to try to use the month break to try some new spots to see if they will produce.

I always get good pics and see bucks this time of year...BUT this year I feel just like you...Nothing. I've hunted hard all season and have only seen one good buck and did not have a shot....I'm not even seeing many doe..crazy year. I don't know where all the deer went.

I haven't hunted a lot since gun season. I sat for a couple hours Wed morning and saw 2 small bucks and 3 does. Killed one of the does. My buddy has been out a few times and he has reported pretty goof deer movement each time out. Franklin County

When we came home from Thanksgiving dinner at my daughter's house we had 4 go across my backyard. This was still good shooting light. All antlerless..
Part of me says - "Hey, let's go hunt some does" and part of me just say - "Nah".

Saw four very nice mature Doe, while Squirrel hunting this morning. Those Doe were around 15 yards from my ground blind.

Luckily lot of the honey suckle leaves are finally brown and have fell so we'll see how it goes. Just crazy hard to get in there without blowin them out! Also going to try some mid day hunts now. I had a camera set up in more open hard woods, pics showed movement at night. So I think thick hunting is the only option right now.

Three of us hunted the woods for six days during firearms season and we saw a grand total of one deer. Not even seeing them out in the fields on the way to and home from work in Vincennes like I have in the past.

Let's give the IDNR lot's of credit..their " agressive deer reduction program"...has worked too well.....but the politicians will be proud of their accomplishments. Remember they don't manage for us hunters...even though collectively we hunters spend millions of dollars to hunt deer each year in Indiana.

Went and sat the last hour of light yesterday evening on the edge of a cut bean field....just out of boredom. Ended up seeing 16 deer.....one 2.5 yo buck.
Had 3 does walk 10 yards from us but we were sitting on the ground and had our guns laying on the ground ...... a 10 minute staring contest before they got tired of it and went back the way they came in the crp.

Your IDNR is way too liberal on harvesting of antlerless Deer. If this reduction of antlerless Deer continues, your Deer Hunting will be like the early 1970's in a very few years.

Then the only thing we can do as hunters is decide not to take those extra does even when we are given the opportunity. We are going to have to take personal responsibility, and urge others to do the same. I mean come on guys, you have a deer hunting contest that many of you participate in that is literally based in part about how many does you can kill. (Not trying to ruffle feathers.) I personally made the choice to limit myself to one deer this year (although at this rate it is looking like zero deer for me, lol!) simply because I haven't seen as many in the usual spots as I feel like I should have. If I feel like I need a second harvest, it will be in a county that has an 8 county bonus limit. It all begins with us. Perhaps the DNR can control the reductions on public land, but on private land we control they have no power and as long as there are refuges for the deer to escape, the numbers have a chance to rebuild. The state likes their money and even with all the legislation about "reducing the herd" if tag revenues take a big hit because enough people aren't feeling like there are enough deer to make it worth the effort, then things will change.

I cant speak for anyone but myself but I dont view the contest as "how many does can I kill". If I wanted to stack up the does like cordwood I could but I dont. It appears that most others who could chose not to as well .....

This year is the first time in 3 years I've taken a doe. That was by choice. In the last 3 years I could have killed, literally, DOZENS of does. I pass does on nearly every hunt every year. I like to see a lot of deer when I hunt, therefore, I normally don't kill them. I save does for the kids who hunt our places if they wish to shoot one. The bag limits in the counties I hunt mean next to nothing to me. I will never approach them.

It appears that most others who could chose not to as well ..... TRUE ... the "contest" is just a keeping score of what folks would normally kill otherwise. I doubt very seriously if anyone on here says "I need to kill a couple more does so my team can win the contest". If there were great prizes and/or prize money then just maybe. Hunt-Indiana.com "bragging rights"? Uh, I don't think so..
