Two weeks ago my 10 year old was devastated by breaking his left arm. He figured hunting was out of the question for him this year. He's been doing great with his arm brace (arm pit to wrist), so we decided to give hunting a shot. About a half hour after sunrise some coyotes came out on the pasture and started to work their way our direction. He got set up on the lead dog at 127 yards, I told him where to hold, and he let his .44 hand I rifle eat. The coyote dropped like the hammer of God just came down on him! I took a flyer at one of the others before it hit the woods and SCOPED myself... Good! I missed, but didn't care. I was so excited about the fantastic shot he had made. I was bleeding all over the place, high fiving and hugging my boy, when I heard footfalls to my right. A doe (I thought) had ran out of our corn plot, and ran 20 yards in front of us. He had reloaded, got reset, and squeezed again! His first coyote (and longest shot) and a deer (button buck) in about a minute and a half! Needless to say, he was one excited young hunter, and I was one bloody, proud dad!

Very cool. That coyote would make a beautiful tanned hide. I bet that morning helped to take his mind off of his cast. I know how frustrating it can be for kids. My son broke both his wrists and had both arms in casts at the same time.

Very cool. That coyote would make a beautiful tanned hide. I tubed out the coyote. It was a BIG, beutiful male with long, black gaurd hairs. He was furred out perfectly and may have pushed 40 lbs. Gonna get him tanned so the boy has a totem of the occasion.

Thanks for the kind words. The coyote was certainly a big dude! The biggest I have laid hands on at least. I think he was much more excited about the coyote, and the shot he put on him, than he was the deer. He wanted to check out the dog before we started tracking the button buck. He's a really good shot, and takes a lot of pride in his shooting, but I think he impressed himself with a 125ish yard shot on a relatively small target. The coyote will make a great wall hanging, and the little buck will be great eating! One of my all time favorite hunts, for sure!
