Wow! Gutted within one hour of being shot??? That's gotta be a real challenge on an animal that takes an hour and a half to die! With the size of Billys' deer, and what he shoots them with, I doubt that many are still breathing a minute or 2 after being shot. His deer are a bit smaller than ours here. Billy, what does your "average" doe and buck weigh, either before or after field dressing? For the guys on this side of the pond, 1 kilogram is roughly 2.2 pounds.

Greetings Meta, I'm not going there, woody would get annoyed lol, you know what we use here and if it manages to move, the dogs do the rest. That is uk best practise. One hour of being shot, if it's out all night find it and leave it, if anyone was to become ill because of it one would be in court and probably sacked. On my computer there is a section which says, not through larder, so if I get a deer such as lost overnight, or excessive bullet damage, or green gut contents, I have to use that facility, it means it does not go into the food chain but still comes off the area cull. Oh yes its hard being a civil servant lol. Regards Billy Could you take a deer that wouldn't make the cut with the government and process the meat for your personal use?

Greetings On my own private ground I can do what I like for my own use, if I gave it away and some one else became ill I am in serious trouble. I cannot take deer from the forest for any reason unless I paid for it, would be seen as stealing, and being a civil servant I almost definitely would loose my job one way or another Everything including the antlers belong to work, an exception is made if one shoots a good buck, such as the sika stag I shot, but I had to request the trophy. And I can understand why. Regards Billy

Greetings What I forgot to tell you is that they take it that seriously that every animal I harvest i put a tag on it, that tag is,a declaration I sign, to say that before shot the animals behaviour was normal, and that after shot that I have checked all the lythnomatic nodes for disease in both its abdomen and head and throat. Also the grid reference of every animal harvested is recorded If I find anything wrong I must notify the authorities and keep the carcass for inspection. In all the deer I have harvested only once did I need to send one away, the result came back as meningitis, it was behaving like it was drunk, and eventually came tumbling down a slope towards me, where I shot it. Serious stuff over here. Regards Billy

My understanding is that countries with government sponsored healthcare tend to care a little more about what people are eating. I could preach for hours, but That wouldn't be necessary to further confirm my distaste for the US food supply and it's moderators.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should, and nobody chooses for you.
