I keep getting this sense of (to quote Yogi Berra) deja vu all over again.

Dont laugh but I have a friend who "thinks" he wants a 338 Lapua and if he got one he would try and kill a deer with it. The only thing stopping him is the sticker shock .... if it werent for that he would have one and hunt deer with it. I am going with a 50 BMG, might as well go big. I can shoot passed 5 corn fields, going for in the next county over. Got a friend who does have one!

Oh, I don't know - my 416 Rigby may go out! biggrin2 Is that your old Tyrannosaurus Rex gun? I was wonder when the subject of the "t-Rex" cartridge would come-up. That would be the one to get if you want a BIG BANG & KICK!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrImp-ek3bI

I'm not manly enough for that one! The .460 WM. or .378 WM. is enough for me.

It's people like you guys that are the reason that the T-rex population is in decline. It takes no skill to be dropping T-rex's with a rifle at 1000 yards away. You should all be ashamed of yourselves!

You should all be ashamed of yourselves! Do you really want a T Rex to get any closer than that? They are very fast critters that can close the distance real fast. Then it is hand to tooth combat. Of course I use my 100 yard same point of impact crossbow .

The only thing stopping him is the sticker shock .... if it werent for that he would have one and hunt deer with it. swik: I've got a .338 Lapua that is wildcatted. If anybody has a ballistic program, here's some numbers for you to run. It holds approximately 10% more powder than the stock .338 Lapua case. I'm using WC 872 powder in it. Accuracy wise, if I do my part it's a 1/4 moa gun. MV 3475 fps with a 175g 7mm Sierra Matchking bullet. Verified G1 bc of .77 MV 3400 fps with a 180g 7mm Berger VLD hunting bullet. Verified G1 bc of .83 MV 3350 fps with a 200g 7mm Wildcat RBBT bullet. Verified G1 bc of .91 Sight height 1.750" I zero the gun at 300 yds. I've killed an elk at 705 yds with it, and I've run it out to 1330 yds in Colorado, where the 2nd bullet impacted in the same crater in the dirt that the first bullet made. (looking thru a 60x spotting scope) Shooting at a small rock on the side of a dirt hill. First shot made the rock disappear. The muzzle brake makes the recoil feel like I'm shooting my unbraked 6# .243 Browning A-bolt. I can't shoot the 175g SMK's any more after approximately 200 rounds down the tube because they are going *poof* about 50 yds past the muzzle. I've switched to the Berger VLD's and they are working fine - that's what I used to kill the Elk with. If the wind is calm or if there's no wind, (reading the wind is the hardest part about shooting long range) that gun will reach out a ways....

Somewhat unpractical as it weighs like 23lb. Go big.

One T-rex was overheard telling another, concerning hunters: "They taste like chicken."
You'll want to have plenty of fire power when you go for 'em!

T-Rex aint got nothing on this one. I do believe you could line them up and kill 4 or 5 at a time. .950 caliber. 2800 grain bullet going 2100 FPS. 25400 lbft of energy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xohy9gWz7kk

What is a moose gun or an elephant gun? I can't wait to bust out my elephant gun. My range is only about 800 yards though. Better get to work.

They said the current model weighs over 100lbs..... you'd have to mount it to a truck just to move it around. A tank gun without the tank.

So its necked down to 7mm? Correct. Case body taper reduced, shoulder blown forward and a sharper angle on it. That's how it holds the extra powder. edit: This gun weighs a hair under 10# bare, 12# with scope, bipod and full magazine. Here's what it looks like next to a .308

This one didn't get far as I had my trusty TenPoint Stealth SS handy.. .
