I'm hunting the HNF property around Bloomington and do see the National Forest boundary markers in the areas. My question is, with some of those markers being yards (50 or more) running parallel to state roads, am I trespassing if I cross beyond that boundary marker to get to the road coming out of the forest (or vice versa, to access the forest)? There are no homes (private property) in this particular area. I assume this area between the National Forest boundary markers and the state road, is state property AND therefore I am ok being there.

I would recommend that you contact the county surveyor in the county the property is located in to see who owns it. What you are describing sounds like it would be the road's right of way but I would not want to make that assumption. It may take no more than a phone call to ensure that you are legal. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
