My 19 year old Son is in the Army National Guard, Right now he is active with basic training and AIT training and is stationed at Ft. Sill Oklahoma Army Base. When he comes home on a 2 week leave, is he required to have a hunting license for deer hunting and duck hunting? after 2 weeks he goes back to the Base for more training? He curently is considered Active since he resides on Base?

A person in the armed forces that is a resident of Indiana may hunt without a license while they are on LEAVE. However, they have to have leave orders showing the duration of their leave with them while hunting. If he is in the reserves and he only has paperwork stating he is active from a certain date to a certain and then again active for a second set of dates, he is not on leave he is inactive for a period of time. For example, If he has activation orders for training from November 1 to December 19 and a second set of activation orders from January 2 to March 31, he is not technically on leave from December 20 to January 1 but is considered inactive. If he is issued leave orders for that time period (December 20 to January 1) then he would be on leave and not considered inactive. If you need additional clarification, let me know. I have posted the statute that pertains to this below.
IC 14-22-11-11 Resident members of armed forces Sec. 11. A resident of Indiana on leave from the armed forces of the United States may hunt or fish any species in season without a license for the duration of the person's leave. However, when the person is hunting or fishing, the person must show the person's leave orders and motor vehicle operator's license or voter registration card to prove residence in Indiana to a law enforcement officer requesting to see the leave orders and license or card.
